To help address broad economic, cultural and political concerns in the city and beyond, the College draws together students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds and seeks to provide the programs and support they need to achieve their goals.Specific Responsibilities

    • Serve as a liaison between military families and departments throughout the College to connect students to appropriate resources and help them to navigate the College's policies and procedures.
    • Provide updates to superiors, colleagues and students around changes to laws, regulations and College policy that impact our students and their military education benefits.
    • Support students in completing the veteran's certification and veteran's scholarship forms.
    • Sponsor guest speakers and facilitate peer group discussions to address the unique challenges faced by student veterans, service members and families.
    • Offer transition workshops during the new student orientation program for veterans.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with veterans-centered organizations throughout the City of Philadelphia.
    • Identify and coordinate with the Admissions Office as well as the Special Events and Community Relations Office to participate in veterans-centered programming throughout the City of Philadelphia.
    • Serve as the advisor for the College's Student Veterans of America Chapter.
    • Oversee the maintenance of the Veterans Resource Office webpage and information for veterans on related web pages.
    • Monitor The Veterans Resource Center and The Philadelphia Student Veterans Group pages
    • Serve as liaison with Counseling Services as necessary to address academic concerns and issues.
    • Maintain resources, periodicals and other relevant academic material for veterans
    • Provide services at the regional centers, as needed.
    • Periodically assist with other departmental projects and College committees as assigned.
    • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with the mission, goals, and core values of the College.
    • Maintain sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academi environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

    • Associate's degree required, preferably in higher education administration, counseling, or related field. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
    • Prior military experience required.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with integrated management software required; Banner preferred.
    • Valid driver's license and access to personal transportation required.
    • Ability to work in a multicultural and diverse environment with a professional level of interpersonal, public relations, verbal and written skills required.
    • Understanding of and appreciation for the mission of an urban community college required.

Preferred Qualifications

 

    • Three (3) years experience in veterans affairs within a college/university setting preferred.
    • Demonstrated experience in educational programming preferred.
