University of Pennsylvania Full-time Research Associate, Department of Orthodontics in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

We seek highly creative and self-motivated researcher with expertise in molecular microbiology, multi-omics data analyses (including AI/ML), and microbial engineering to join us in developing new ways to study spatial structure-function of oral microbiome and host-microbiome interaction in health and disease. The Research Associate will report to Dr. Hyun (Michel) Koo. The project will investigate mechanisms and treatments for oral diseases (mucosal and dental) associated with polymicrobial biofilms. It integrates advanced microscopy, bioinformatics and experimental models to assess spatial microbiome and spatial host-microbe interactome at community and single-cell level. This position offers opportunities to expand knowledge and gain experience in cutting-edge imaging analyses, in vivo models, spatial-omics, and to engage in interschool collaborations. The candidate may develop an independent but related project and seek external funding. Research Associate position at the university is contingent upon grant funding.

The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. with 5 years of postdoctoral training with strong background in genetics, molecular and synthetic biology, microbial engineering or related fields. We welcome applicants with experience in non-oral microbiome systems. The applicant should be highly motivated with excellent communication skills and be able to work collaboratively within a diverse and inclusive research team.

Applicants are required to apply via the Interfolio posting.
