General Job Description:

This is routine manual work for the Department of Parks and Recreation or the Philadelphia Water Department. Employees in this class perform work in one of two specialty areas: Grounds and Facilities or Green Stormwater Infrastructure. Employees in the Grounds and Facilities specialty are responsible for the maintenance and care of parks and recreation department facilities and grounds which includes maintaining facility cleanliness, performing grounds maintenance, performing minor repair work, and assisting skilled trades workers in the performance of minor work orders.

 

The Requirements are as follows:

1. EDUCATION Education equivalent to completion of the eighth school grade.

AND 2. EXPERIENCE:

GROUNDS AND FACILITIES SPECIALTY One year of experience performing landscape, nursery, grounds, or other related maintenance job.

NOTE- GROUNDS AND FACILITIES SPECIALTY ONLY: Successful completion of forty hours of training in the maintenance and care of recreation or parks facilities and grounds provided by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society or by an agency approved by the Department of Parks and Recreation or completion of thirty credits from an accredited college or university in nursery, grounds maintenance, arboriculture, landscape design, or a related field, meets all requirements for the Grounds and Facilities Specialty only.
