Hourly Rate: $36.21 Work Shift/Hours: Mon, Thurs thru Sat 3pm to 11pm; Sun 7a to 3pm Job Summary: Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Steam Plant Engineer, is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the various mechanical and building systems (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning [HVAC], compressed air systems, vacuum systems, fire alarm, and protection systems, etc.), ensuring occupant comfort and adequate services to the assigned campus buildings. The Steam Plant Engineer is also responsible for monitoring the operation of various mechanical equipment on a regular basis and start, stop, operate, and/or dispatch the appropriate mechanical equipment necessary to maintain occupant comfort and adequate building services. In addition to monitoring and accurately recording various mechanical equipment operating parameters (pressure, temperature, flow, etc.) and meter readings on a regular basis as required for equipment performance monitoring and regulatory record keeping compliance. The Steam Plant Engineer will perform the routine mechanical and electrical work necessary to maintain the various mechanical systems in working order and will start, stop, operate, and monitor the various mechanical systems in the assigned buildings through the utilization of the Building Automation System. Perform other related duties as assigned. This position requires a background check Required Education and Experience: *A minimum of two to three years of experience in operating and maintaining HVAC and other building services in an industrial or campus environment. *Experience performing maintenance and repair of various types of mechanical and electrical equipment. *An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must be a graduate of one of the following: *Vocational/technical school (2-year program) specializing in HVAC *Or accredited apprenticeship program in HVAC (4-5-year program) *Or equivalent trade-specific military school(s) or equivalent corporate training program. Required Skills and Abilities: *Must have a valid City of Philadelphia Engineer Grade A License or be eligible and successfully obtain a City of Philadelphia Engineer Grade A License within the first 120 days of employment. *Must be able to perform tasks that require lifting, climbing, working at heights, and bending. *Must possess adequate manual dexterity to effectively utilize hand and power tools. *Ability to utilize expert knowledge of the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems in conjunction with a fundamental understanding of engineering principles involved to anticipate operational issues, troubleshoot problems that arise, and take any corrective actions necessary to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the various building mechanical systems. *Ability to read and understand equipment maintenance and repair manuals, mechanical system design drawings, diagrams, and other documentation as required for the operation and maintenance of various building mechanical systems *Possess the basic mechanical and electrical skills necessary to perform routine maintenance tasks *Possess the excellent written and verbal communication skills that are essential to communicate effectively with all members of the Temple community (customers and supervision) *Knowledge of safe work practices (including PPE requirements for work assignments), applicable building codes, and government regulations incl ding, but not limited to, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA70E *Ability to utilize personal computers & software (Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office applications, etc.) for routine daily tasks (reports, business communications, etc.) and to operate the Building Automation System *Drive Temple vehicles around campus, and traverse between one campus to another, to perform duties such as but not limited to: transporting pumps, safety equipment for entering steam manholes and fulfilling our obligations to the Main campus. Preferred: *Experience utilizing a Building Automation System for the operation of various mechanical and building systems.
