Responsibilities:

As a DBA, you’ll play a crucial role in managing our databases and ensuring data integrity. Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Architect and Build: Fully design and build databases based on business requirements, collaborating with programming staff for design changes and innovation.

  • Performance Optimization: Manage and interface with multiple databases across distributed environments, conducting performance tuning and optimization.

  • Troubleshooting: Monitor and maintain database systems, proactively troubleshooting any issues that may arise.

  • Efficient Design: Collaborate with development teams to design efficient database structures.

  • Data Integrity: Ensure data integrity and accuracy through regular maintenance tasks.

  • Stay Current: Stay current with industry best practices and emerging trends in database management systems and approaches.

  • Security Management: Maintain data integrity and security, managing roles and permissions of database users.

  • Performance Enhancement: Use profiling tools to identify and resolve performance issues, deadlocks, and contention.

  • Backup and Recovery: Develop strategies and implement backups, restoration, and replication solutions.

  • Housekeeping: Proactively perform housekeeping, archiving, and shrinking of databases.

  • Environment Management: Manage production, QA, and development database environments.

  • Documentation: Create detailed documentation, including diagrams of database infrastructure where needed.

  • Business Understanding: Understand relevant business processes, data flow, criticality, and dependencies.

  • Effective Communication: Coordinate and communicate effectively with internal teams and clients.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s in computer science or equivalent education and experience.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in database administration, including SQL and data management systems proficiency.

  • Familiarity with clustering, ETL pipelines, data modeling, and cloud-based databases (e.g., Azure SQL).

  • Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and practical communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with SQL in multiple data centers.

  • Experience running SQL in Azure.

  • Familiarity with Grafana.

  • Preferred certifications: SQL MCSA.

Experience with non-relational database management systems including Elasticsearch and Redis.

Their visionary approach spread the cost of ownership among many users, facilitating the mobility of the populations of the U.S. and Canada.
