Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories - Engineering Services (SEL-ES) seeks a Protection & Controls Engineer to join our team in Phoenix, AZ.

As a Protection & Controls Engineer, a typical day might include the following:

  • Apply fundamental concepts, practices and procedures by using power system software, integration and automation tools, industrial controls and protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus), PLCs, Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, industry SCADA practices and Human Machine Interface (HMI).

  • Train and assist customers with the creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning and operation of automation and/or protection systems.

  • Complete and implement assigned work within agreed upon scope, schedule and budget to a high level of quality and safety.

  • Participate in the preparation of functional design specifications.

  • Prepare and maintain detailed design documents, reports, checklists, test reports, and deliverables.

    This job might be for you if have the following:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline

  • 2+ years relevant application experience with electric power systems and industry practices,

  • 2+ years using power system software, integration and automation tools, industrial controls and protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus), PLCs, Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, industry SCADA practices and Human Machine Interface (HMI).

  • Good knowledge of electric power system protection and control, integration and/or automation and communications applications

  • Working knowledge of electric power system design, studies, information and communication technology and protective relay applications

  • Willing to travel both domestically and internationally a minimum of 25%

    Pay Range Data

    We anticipate filling this position as a Project Engineer II $79,400.00- $124,000. We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our pay ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
