Animal Research Associate
The Williams Lab in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine/UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is seeking an Animal Research Associate to manage and conduct complex animal studies to model breast cancer metastasis, particularly to the liver. The Research Associate will be expected to work independently to conduct, analyze, and present data from experiments that address the laboratory mission of improving immunotherapy approaches for breast cancer metastasis. Training will be provided in established procedures. Initiative-taking applicants that are interested in learning new techniques or improving existing techniques are encouraged to apply. The applicant should be able to learn quickly, complete tasks efficiently, and collaborate with other laboratory members to assist with or teach complex animal procedures. The candidate must have previous experience working with rodents and have advanced communication and organizational skills allowing them to orchestrate project planning and management under the direction of Principal Investigator. The candidate should be detail oriented and will be expected to manage laboratory protocols (IBC, IACUC), annual laboratory inspections, and oversee laboratory ordering pertaining to animal experiments.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.
Essential Functions
Rodent handling and treatment interventions
Complex rodent survival surgeries
Works independently or as a team member
Collaborates with and trains other lab members in techniques
Oversees tissue collection and analysis
Complies, analyzes and presents data
Manages laboratory protocols and inspections
Project planning and management
Oversees relevant laboratory supplies and equipment
Written and verbal communication with vendors and Principal Investigator
Physical Effort
Light physical effort is required and dexterity for animal handling and interventions.
