Laboratory Technician

The Division of Infectious Diseases is seeking a Laboratory Research Technician who will perform laboratory testing and some analysis to identify and investigate antimicrobial resistance of clinical concern among gram-negative bacterial pathogens. The candidate will be in charge of general lab maintenance and upkeep, purchasing materials, and collecting and processing samples for clinical studies. Attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work in a team are required skills. Experience in the above described research areas is strongly preferred.

-Perform bacterial culture, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and antimicrobial synergy.

-Make frozen stock of seed cultures.

-Collect, process, store, and ship clinical samples and bacterial isolates from the clinical laboratory for a range of studies.

-Prepare biohazardous shipments.

-Place orders and must maintain supplies and prepare stocks of reagents.

-Must keep track of maintenance and calibration of equipment.

-Must be able to operate an autoclave and dishwasher.

Job Summary

 

Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.

 

Essential Functions

This position requires a high level of mobility, manual dexterity, visual acuity, and basic computer skills. Must have the ability to be flexible and manage competing priorities as assigned by supervisor.

Physical Effort

Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Light lifting may be required. This position requires that the applicant travel between laboratories, campus buildings, and to sit or stand at a laboratory bench for extended periods of time.
