The Department of Human Services, Bureau of Hearings and Appeals, Western Region is seeking a Legal Assistant 1. In this entry-level administrative position, you will perform a variety of legal administrative tasks related to the core functions of the bureau. The bureau is the entity within the Department of Human Services charged with receiving, processing, conducting, and adjudicating administrative appeals and hearings in a fair, unbiased, and timely manner. We do so in accordance with state and federal regulations. The volume of appeals that the bureau processes annually means that we are a fast-paced and team-oriented environment. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Legal Assistant 1, you will perform legal clerical work including the processing and scheduling of appeals and fair hearings involving actions taken by both the Department of Human Services and the PA Department of Aging. You will review related legal documents and correspondence, as well as the decisions written by the Bureau's Administrative Law Judges (ALJs). You will also provide legal clerical support for ALJs and Legal Assistant 2s in the Department of Human Services, Bureau of Hearings and Appeals (BHA). In addition, you will ensure appeals are processed timely and in compliance with regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch. Telework: Upon successful completion of your probationary period and/or training period, part-time telework may be considered. Your work assignments will primarily take place in the office. However, telework may be available based upon individual eligibility and the operational needs of the bureau. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. Salary:The starting salary is non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Three years of responsible clerical, enforcement or investigative work; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
