The UCC is a department within the Division of Student Affairs and aligned under the Wellness Team consisting of Campus Recreation, Student Health Services, Care and Resource Support departments. Accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) and American Psychological Association (APA), the UCC exists to ensure healthy and thriving lives for University of Pittsburgh's diverse student population by providing crisis intervention, outreach, workshops, group, individual, relationship/couples therapy, and teams to assist with disordered eating, gender affirmation, substance use, and trauma. The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified clinician to join the University Counseling Center as a Staff Clinician, Doctoral Intern. The Staff Clinician, Doctoral Intern, as part of the APA Doctorial Internship Program, will provide direct and non-direct services to students, including but not limited to, individual, relationship/couples, and group psychotherapy, clinical consultation, outreach programming, and participate in supervision of Doctorial Practicum Students and training. The Staff Clinician, Doctoral Intern will have the opportunity to serve on committees within and outside of the Center.

Job Summary

Provides basic psychological counseling within clinical, prevention, and crisis services to students in individual or group psychotherapy structured services utilizing specialized therapeutic techniques. Counsels within specialized groups (i.e., Offices of Disability Services and veterans). Develops assessments, courses or actions, and makes referrals as needed.

Essential Functions

Provides targeted, advanced-level, clinical psychotherapy services primarily to students for a range of mental health concerns, including assessments; prevention and crisis services; individual, group, and relationship therapy; intake services; and diagnostic functions.

Utilizes specialized techniques to foster student development, remediate mental health problems, promote positive mental health, and support academic success.

Conducts comprehensive, strength-based, and behavior-focused assessments and treatments. Facilitates behavior changes by utilizing research-based cognitive and behavioral strategies.

Develops and implements therapeutic treatment plans; consults with doctors and specialists concerning treatment plans.

Supervises practicum students.

Supports outreach programming and provides consultation to staff, faculty, parents, and students.

Participates in and contributes to professional development activities; prepares reports and performs associated administrative duties.

Physical Effort

This is sedentary position which involves light physical activity and sitting at a desk in an office.
