What does the EVP, Chief Information Technology Officer do?

The Executive Vice President and Chief Information Technology Officer at Canandaigua National Bank & Trust is responsible for leading the technological vision, strategies and execution of Information Technology, Project Management, and Data Governance. This position develops and executes on Information Technology, Project Management, and Data Governance strategic plans based on corporate business goals and objectives. This role will partner with leaders across the organization to leverage technology to enhance capabilities and productivity by leading change management related to digital transformation. This position also oversees Key Enterprise Platforms, is an active member of the CNC Executive Team and serves as Executive Sponsor of our Center for Excellence.

Essential Duties

  • Ensures Information Technology, Project Management, and Data Governance strategic and operational planning is in place to achieve business goals by fostering innovation, prioritizing key initiatives, and ensuring the successful evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future systems across the organization. Leads efforts to use digital technologies in new, secure, and innovative ways, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
  • Ensures that the information Technology, Project Management, and Data Governance structures are effective and include stakeholders from all levels of the organization.
  • Ensures Information Technology, Project Management, and Data Governance Strategic plans are based on corporate business goals and objectives. Ensures plans are adjusted as necessary and developed to support the CNC strategic plan. Regularly communicate strategic plans in these areas to the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
  • Accountable for digital transformation initiatives by overseeing key Enterprise Platforms/Systems, such as Salesforce, nCino, DNA, Q2, and Fitek, by managing vendor relationship, setting KPI/KRI metrics, and ensuring key performance goals are met.
  • Serves as Executive Sponsor for the Center of Excellence. Provides coaching on change management leadership and provides support, as needed, to ensure the Center of Excellence is functioning at a high level and meeting objectives.
  • Oversees CNC’s Data Governance strategies by working closely with key internal stakeholders, including the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Work collaboratively with others to ensure processes, policies, and controls are in place to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of banking data throughout its lifecycle.
  • Ensures Information Technology and the Project Management Office budgets are prepared annually in accordance with annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Ensures Information Technology and the Project Management Office are supporting cross organizational projects and initiatives in support of strategic objectives.
  • Keeps current on industry trends and costs. Advises, counsels, and educates management on their competitive or financial impact.
  • Participates in strategic and operational governance as a member of the CNC Executive team by actively engaging in CNC decision making at Executive Team meetings and participating in CNC initiatives.
  • Promotes and oversees strategic and collaborative relationships across the enterprise, as well as external entities, including regulators, vendors, and partner organizations.
  • Supervises the Heads of Information Technology and Project Management and works collaboratively with the Chief Information Security Officer and other key Line of Business Leaders. Provides guidance, coaching, and performance evaluation to ensure the teams have the skills, tools, and support needed to deliver quality services. Participates in workforce planning and talent development initiatives.

What is needed to be successful in this role?

  • MA/MS or MBA in Information Technology or related fields or equivalent combination of education and practical experience desired.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years' experience of progressive leadership experience in Information Technology and Project management.
  • Project Management Certification (PMP) a plus.
  • Prior experience in banking/financial industry highly desired.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with senior business leaders on strategic planning and roadmap development and provide guidance on leading industry practices/methodologies to drive improvement across the Information Technology, Project Management, and Data Governance functions.
  • Experience executing a vendor management strategy, including evaluating, monitoring, and negotiating with key enterprise platform vendors.
  • Strong understanding of the principles of change management, effective communication to stakeholders, and ability to engage stakeholders and mitigate risk.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, demonstrating the business value of enterprise architecture and data management initiatives.
  • Effective problem solving, presentation and coaching skills.
  • Strong knowledge of information technology functions including applications, security, infrastructure, and support.
  • Strong knowledge of project management practices and systems. Workfront or similar system experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of Customer Relationship Management Systems (CRM). Experience with Salesforce strongly desired.
  • Working knowledge of bank systems and operations desired.

Compensation range target- $215,000-$295,000 base salary, plus additional executive benefits.
The actual salary offered within the range is dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, level offered, and performance expectations.
