The Opportunity
As a P&C Policy & Performance Underwriter Lead, you will be responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, and managing personal lines P&C Underwriting policies and processes to achieve enterprise priorities. You will also partner with internal stakeholders to maintain P&C Underwriting policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with state regulations. Ensures implementation of complex projects throughout a line of business or specific area.
This position can work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you’ll do:
Leads and provides guidance to others on the development and implementation of underwriting guidelines, controls, and strategies for all P&C Lines of Business to achieve P&C outcomes.
Owns and manages a complex body(ies) of work that deliver on strategic underwriting priorities by independently gathering qualitative and quantitative analytical data to proactively evaluate and recommend changes to or establish a point of view on the Underwriting appetite for product acceptability.
Develops and delivers underwriting educational programs/tools, training/mentoring, and communications to internal and external audiences to include P&C EMG, P&C President, and the Board.
Provides direction to resolve risks or impediments, mentors, and shares industry knowledge and experience with other employees.
Independently gathers qualitative and quantitative analytical data, and teaches others on the utilization of data, to conduct root cause analysis to proactively evaluate and recommend changes to, or establish a point of view on the Underwriting appetite or other underwriting processes.
Serves as a delegate for leadership. Communicates and shares information across P&C and the Enterprise, tailors messaging for audiences ranging from peers to senior executives.
Leads the development of large-scale solutions or complex changes to underwriting policies, programs, products, systems, and processes in a highly regulated environment.
Evaluates and pilots new strategic and innovative business solutions to optimize and automate underwriting processes.
Independently configures, tests, and implements systematic underwriting changes while adhering to rule documentation standards.
Independently leverages data-driven problem-solving techniques, using data analysis tools, to manipulate and interpret business results. Translates findings into insights, shaping into project or Initiative requests where warranted.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you’ll have:
Bachelor’s degree: OR 4 additional years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
8 years of experience in Property & Casualty, Project Management, Process Engineering, Business Process or Risk Management, to include direct experience executing underwriting processes and/or defining underwriting procedures.
Advanced knowledge of relevant industry practices, insurance policy contracts, trends, and regulatory requirements.
Experience in leading efforts to interpret and apply P&C regulations to mitigate underwriting compliance risk.
Experience in making data driven decisions to create actionable recommendations for performance improvement.
Experience in presenting analysis and findings to varying levels of management and key stakeholders to gather support for business initiatives and influence strategy.
Experience researching, developing, writing, and editing operational procedures and documents.
Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Access.
What sets you apart:
6+ years of direct P&C Underwriting Homeowners experience executing underwriting processes and application of insurance regulations and risk management processes.
4+ years of experience in developing and presenting analysis/findings in a manner that conveys understanding, influences various levels of management, garners support for recommendations, and influences business strategy.
Experience working with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or third-party data.
Experience working with third party vendors.
Master's Degree and/or CPCU designation.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong ability to present analysis/findings in a manner that conveys understanding, influences various levels of management, garners support for recommendations, and influences business strategy.
Strong business acumen, professional presence, and proven ability to influence change at all levels to include senior leaders and/or EMG.
Advanced knowledge of existing data analytics tools, as well as emerging technologies, for example, ADS, Tableau, or SAS.

What we offer :
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $99,160-$189,530.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
