Description There is an opportunity for a full-time Staff Accountant with a terrific Construction/Contractor company. Located in the Portage, Michigan area, this position is a challenging, multi-faceted opportunity to work for a company that recognizes and rewards hard work. This position is for candidates with the ability to prepare journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance, and general ledger reconciliation and be responsible for many aspects of internal reporting during the monthly close. Participation in compliance, interaction with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and reviewing schedules reporting processes are also expected tasks. To be preferred for this position, you will need to have a complex understanding Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets.

Major responsibilities

• Organize and review a variety of financial data, reporting it in a way that is useful and understandable

• Partake in various department-wide initiatives

• Produce complex journal entries and account reconciliations which include, but are not limited to, cash, prepaid expenses, and payroll

• Maintain fixed asset ledgers, depreciation, and reconciliation

• Intercompany billings, transactions, and reconciliation

• Recurring journal entries maintenance and reconciliation

• Implement, maintain, and adhere to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP

• Compose journal entries and conduct the month end close with minimal supervision

• Compose analyses for income statements and monthly balance sheets for management reporting

• Maintain capital lease and monthly payment schedules

• Become well-versed in month end balance sheet account reconciliations

• Assist in the month end, quarter end and year end closing process including monthly financial close workbook preparation

• Ad hoc reporting and performing special projects upon request Requirements - BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics

• Outstanding organizational, written and verbal communication skills required

• Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities

• Skilled with ERP systems

• Attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

• Ability to handle multiple projects within strict deadlines

• Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases

• GAAP Accounting experience

• Foundational knowledge in general ledger

• Financial reporting experience highly desired

• Balance Sheet Reconciliation experience required

• Comprehensive knowledge of Full Charge Bookkeeping

• Competent with spreadsheets and databases

• Extraordinary analytical, quantitative and social skills

• 3+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience

• Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment
