**[Position: Woonasquatucket River Watershed Recreation Guide

[The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) is looking for a part time and year-round Recreation Guide to lead groups on hikes and paddle trips throughout the Woonasquatucket River Watershed. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and previous on-water experience, either in kayaks or canoes. The Recreation Guide prepares kayaks and canoes for use by participants, demonstrates safe practices, watches and guides participants while on tours, and tows participants, if needed. This position is best suited for those with previous kayaking experience.

[In collaboration with WRWC staff members, the Recreation Guide will plan and facilitate pleasant, safe, and informative excursions aimed at building stewardship of the Woonasquatucket River and its surrounding watershed lands to a diverse range of participants. The Recreation Guide will be responsible for the safety of participants and will have the appropriate communication skills necessary to convey the mission of the WRWC as they will regularly be in contact via phone or email with hikers, paddlers, and organizational partners and guest guides (mushroom experts, historians, ecologists, etc.). [The [Recreation Guide also coordinates with other WRWC program areas, such as Bicycle and Environmental Education for youth and adults, to offer outdoor learning and recreation experiences.

  • Plan and facilitate recreation schedule for the year including hikes, paddles trips, and potentially other recreational activities such as bike rides
  • Procure program materials and supplies such as PFDs, paddles, etc.
  • Coordinate with guest guides and educators
  • Work cooperatively with Communications and Event Staff
  • Attend monthly staff meetings (in-person or virtually)
  • Maintain recreation equipment
  • Moves equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

  • First Aid/CPR trained, or willingness to be trained
  • American Canoe Association Certification, or willingness to be certificated
  • Valid driver's license
  • Experience pulling a canoe/kayak trailer on a truck, or willingness to be trained
  • Participate in on-water safety training
  • Effectively communicate via email and phone
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Flexible schedule including weekday/evening/weekend availability
  • V alue environmental stewardship and advocacy
  • Comfortable swimming and wading in water
