The Mechanical engineering Manager is part of global organization that delivers impact to multiple businesses within Philips. The role manages high impact, complex transfer & Sustaining projects that enables Philips to reduce risk, improve profitability, align with Philips’ strategic supply base and optimize supply chain flexibility. The primary function within this role is to execute fast-paced, high quality transfer & sustaining projects and drive technical ideation of productivity & sustaining projects working with R&D, PE & CM counterparts.

You are responsible for

  • Understanding “System & Mechanical architecture”, their working principle, definition, System Requirement Specification and requirement flow down to different subsystem, advising the System Architect regarding choices of what has to be achieved in hardware and what in software (multidisciplinary), and further advising on make-or-buy decisions, working closely with supplier and Business units across Philips products.

  • Drive Business cluster (Connected care, Precision Diagnostics, Interventional guided therapy & Personal Health) level synergy on best practices for product quality

  • Creation and development of a Mechanical/Mechatronics Center of Excellence including Senior Architect, Program Manager, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics leads, experts, engineers and technicians.

  • Responsible to Lead a high performing team and Manage People performance

  • Is abreast of / participates in standards know-how

  • Responsible for effort estimation and inputting for Program planning

  • Define subsystem architecture under considerations of platform or legacy system constraints

  • Working closely with all the other team members both R&D team members (Like Systems, Verification, Norm compliance etc..) and cross functional stakeholders (Like Service, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, Clinical etc…) for the projects to timely outcome

  • Ensuring Reliability and Serviceability requirements of the system / subsystem / components for a project

  • Performs work in line with the processes that have been agreed in the department.

  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with country specific regulations.

  • Managing R&D relationships with Engineering service suppliers.

  • Delivering on all functional responsibilities including Hiring, Coaching, Competency management, Performance management, etc.

  • Developing project scope, assessing technical & project risk, establish technical requirements for the project.

  • Preparation of WBS, RACI & effort estimation for project.

  • Guiding and mentoring designers & engineers on technical review, DFMEA, DFA/DFM.

  • Ensures that products meet external and internal customer quality needs, cost targets, assurance of supply, address component obsolescence and service needs

  • Gains agreement on achieving Business case, project objectives, balancing schedule, cost, quality and requirements

  • Holds reviews with internal stakeholders, including Supplier transfer excellence team (STET) Management Team members, to review plans, strategy and actual metrics for the products he/she is responsible for

  • Determines project risks, defines corrective action and drives the projects to closure

  • Ensures compliance to corporate and regulatory agencies policies/rules/procedures

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience/Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor/Masters in Mechanical, Automobile, Industrial, Mechatronics or equivalent

  • 11+ Years of total experience with 5+ years of People Management experience

  • Successful track record of project management

  • Great interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrated experience on e2e development of products (Systems or sub-systems)

  • Should be hands-on with Engineering Change Management, Design Transfer processes.

  • Demonstrated experience on system testing, test automation & test fixture design.

  • Worked on supply base transfer/industrial transfer projects

  • Interested to apply Model Based System Engineering, AI and Machine Learning in the Mechatronics context

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably Creo (Pro-ENGINEER) or NX Unigraphics

  • Special emphasis on a demonstrated Mechatronics background in combining mechanical with system engineering, precision tooling, fibre optics/routing and electronic packaging.

  • Robust knowledge of design controls and risk management standards.

  • Broad technical knowledge and experience with bringing medical products to the market, preferably experience with development of medical products (IEC 60601) and healthcare regulatory aspects (ISO13485, FDA)

  • Experience in mentoring of designers or design teams

  • Experience in translating customer needs into technical requirements and clearly defining the complete mechatronic needs to project members

  • Good understanding of testing critical to quality and regulatory requirements

  • Mature skills in prioritizing, requirement clarification, and development effort estimation

  • Proven leadership skills, acting as lead engineer, performing work breakdown / divide work & delegation / (final) review.

  • Standout colleague and excellent communicator (virtual teams)

  • Great work ethics with a passion for quality, Lean and business efficiency

  • Experience in EMI/EMC and Compliance testing are added advantage.

  • Experience in VAVE & Six sigma projects are good to have

  • PMP Certification, MBA and experience in a regulated medical device development and manufacturing environment a plus
