EICA Engineer

Location: Reading

Working across all functions of engineering delivery including, front end engineering design, estimating and project initiation, detailed design, construction support and technical guidance, interfacing with other disciplines and leading/implementing commissioning activities with a strong focus on the water sector.

Main Responsibilities

• Able to work effectively in a project delivery team

• Carry out all Engineering and Design activities within a multi-discipline environment

• Make independent decisions on issues, providing expert technical support within and across all Engineering disciplines

• Able to carry out Engineering works using their own initiative, to the agreed milestones, budgets and quality targets

• Should be able to identify Engineering scope change and effectively manage the process of change control

• Be responsible for ensuring quality in all Engineering designs and projects including, the checking of discipline design deliverables to company procedures

• Comply with all BUK safety rules and CDM requirements for design work, including design reviews, RAMS, safety studies and Client requirements

• Comply with all BUK company processes and procedures

• Be able to effectively carry out Engineering and Design estimates, control and report all costs on allocated projects in terms of progress, scope change and man hours

• Shall be able to produce and supervise production of detailed EICA specifications and scopes of work, EICA design drawings, EICA schedules and EICA calculations which can include; cable routing drawings, schematic and single line diagrams, loop diagrams, general arrangement drawings, cable and load schedules, material take-offs, scope documents, software and hand cable calculations, inspection and test reports and commissioning plans

• Selection & specification of general LV electrical items e.g. distribution equipment, isolation & control equipment, light fittings, cables, protective devices

• Selection & specification of general items of equipment e.g. converters, barriers, indicators, relays, junction boxes, panel, fixings, cable management etc.

• Selection and Specification of Instrumentation Equipment for different types of flow, pressure, level, temperature and analytical instrumentation, including cables, Non I.S and I.S systems

• Shall be able to use some of the following software packages for EICA engineering designs, AutoCAD 2D, AMTECH or similar Pro Design, Microsoft Office Packages, AutoCAD Electrical (preferred)

• Application of functional safety requirements to IEC61508 / 61511 is preferred, Engineer should have a good working knowledge of functional safety

• Shall be able to author or provide technical governance FDS documentation

• Shall have a good understanding of the different types of control systems and their applications to industry

• Knowledge / Qualifications in the current standards and codes of practice including ATEX, CDM, BS 7671 etc

• Carry out all Engineering and Design activities in accordance with BUK approved design guides & procedures, client requirements and British/European Standards / Codes of Practice

• Prepare specifications and requisitions for equipment

• Carry out design, calculation and studies relevant to the engineering discipline

• Shall be able to carry out detailed site surveys of existing assets and project requirements, including the production of detailed survey reports and basis for design documentation

• Provide Engineering and technical support to the site installation team, including the completion of construction red line and as-built documentation

• Shall be able to implement both cold and hot commissioning activities

• Knowledge of Thames Water F15 and F24 Asset Standards.

Experience & Qualifications

• HNC / HND in an EICA Engineering Discipline

• Bachelor’s BEng Degree in EICA Engineering (Preferred)

• Extensive experience in EICA Engineering and Design

• Incorporated Status IEng with an accredited organisation (Preferred)

• Sound technical knowledge and expertise in all areas of EICA engineering

• Experienced in carrying out multi-discipline Engineering projects

• Application of all key relevant British and European standards and regulations

• Experience within the Water Industry.
