Amazon Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, Project Kuiper in Redmond, Washington
Description
Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.
Based at our Redmond, Washington production facility, the Kuiper EHS Manager will develop, communicate, train, drive, manage, audit, improve, and measure Amazon’s Kuiper EHS performance. This individual contributor role will include developing and enhancing EHS compliance and risk management processes. Driving understanding, engagement to provide EHS performance improvement, for the Kuiper portfolio, influence business units leadership, and further integrate EHS into daily operations.
Key job responsibilities
Conducts investigations of working conditions in places of employment for the prevention of safety and environmental risks.
Collaborate with colleagues across multiple disciplines within the company to assure effective program implementation and cohesiveness.
Promote the successful integration of safety and health risk management into key business operations, processes, and audits.
Perform data analytics on company and industry EHS information to drive improvement initiatives.
Promote EHS awareness throughout the organization through effective employee communications, participation, and programming.
Execute sampling plans.
Provide technical assistance and support and serve as key point of contact for safety issues and environmental issues.
Manage environmental permits, proper waste disposal, and EHS reporting in accordance with permit and local requirements.
Conduct compliance tasks including storm water sampling, waste inspections, chemical inventory, and life safety audits, as needed.
Ensure full compliance with applicable laws, regulations and customer requirements.
Support and conduct EHS audits, developing action plans to resolve findings, and implement countermeasures promptly and effectively.
Provide leadership on Kuiper EHS issues, assist senior leaders in understanding business impacts of EHS issues, thereby enabling prudent allocation of resources and decision-making.
Develop and implement EHS training programs that will engage all levels of Kuiper teams on EHS responsibilities, compliance requirements and cultural progression.
Provide safety guidance for developing production processes, equipment, and design.
Remain up-to-date and conversant with relevant laws, regulations and other statutory requirements that affect EHS.

A day in the life
Based at our Redmond, Washington production and lab campus the EHS Manager role will develop and support Amazon Kuiper’s EHS compliance programs and be supported under the supervision of the Kuiper EHS Leader. You will be developing new programs to strengthen our programs, EHS compliance, and risk management processes that support the development, testing, and manufacturing of space hardware.
This role is accountable for supporting development and implementation of environmental, health and safety programs, tools and standards in line with Kuiper Global EHS policies. Responsibilities include training and communication in a manner that ensures compliance to regulatory and internal standards, as well as business needs. Key to this role is building and maintaining strong relationships with all levels of the organization from leadership to individual workers to support them in determining best in class methods to achieve compliance.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, environmental science, engineering, or a related field or relevant experience
5+ years experience in EHS, with aerospace experience preferred.
5+ years experience working with regulatory authorities on permitting and ongoing permit compliance.
3+ years experience with the ability to review technical schematics and drawings as part of construction safety and terminal improvement assessments
3+ years experience with developing and implementing Electrical Safety, Lockout/Tagout, laser safety, radiation safety, confined space, and 5S programs/procedures
5+ years experience developing and implementing environmental compliance programs including regulated waste, water, and air regulations in accordance with regulations
Preferred Qualifications
Industrial environmental professional with significant experience including supporting compliance with Clear Air Act, RCRA, and Clean Water Act.
Laser safety officer or Radiation safety officer
Experience providing EHS support in laboratory/R&D , complex manufacturing, and/or production environments.
A proven track record of communicating complex health and safety information in terms understandable across the organization.
Possess the ability to engage the workforce at all levels in the journey to build a strong safety culture
Excellent at creating and maintaining working relationships across all levels and disciplines, receptive to feedback and input from others, and quick to apply changes.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $125,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $239,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
