Microsoft Corporation Senior Data Engineer - Xbox in Redmond, Washington

Xbox is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to aid in driving our personalization data efforts to the next level. This role involves partnering closely with feature developers, program managers, and data scientists to harness petabytes of data, translating them into actionable recommendations and insight through sophisticated A/B Experimentation. Moreover, the Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for architecting, building, and operationalizing critical components and tools, ensuring the highest standards of data quality and integrity. Ultimately, the data services you build and operate will set the standard for engineering, operational excellence, and usability within the industry.

Responsibilities

  • You will lead the design, development and deployment of large scale data solutions and pipelines to support personalization for our customers.

  • You will drive collaborate with cross-functional teams, including feature developers, program managers, and data scientists, to define data requirements and deliver insights.

  • You will build code to extract raw data, validate its quality, and apply your deep data knowledge to ensure the correct data is ingested across the pipeline. You’ll also create techniques to transform raw data into forms compatible with downstream data sources.

  • You will identify opportunities to leverage and contribute to the development of data tools that are used to transform, manage, and access data.

  • You’ll also write and validate code to test the storage and availability of data platforms so that they’re more resilient.

  • You will write code to implement performance monitoring protocols across data pipelines, building visualizations and aggregations to monitor pipeline health. You’ll also implement solutions and self-healing processes that minimize points of failure across multiple product features.

  • You will anticipate data governance needs, designing data modeling and handling procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and policies. You’ll also govern data accessibility within your assigned pipelines.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years coding experience in one of the following programming languages: C#, Python, or Java

  • 4+ years experience designing, data modelling and implementing data lakes, warehouses, and ETL pipelines at scale.

Perferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality data solutions at scale.

  • Competant software development skills; implementing and defining best practices to increase team efficiency

  • Experience with big data technologies and frameworks such as Spark, SQL, ADLA, ADF

  • Proactive and excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate issues and resolve them efficiently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Proficent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.

  • Commited to continuous learning and professional development.

Data Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
