Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Redmond, Washington

The Microsoft Azure Storage team operates at the forefront of building Microsoft’s cloud storage solution—an immensely complex and infinitely large infrastructure that serves the entire world. As a Software Engineer II, you will contribute to the growth of the high-quality next-generation Azure storage fleet by building performance benchmarking and hardware/firmware qualification services. In this role, you will work with industry-leading software and hardware storage technologies, as well as tackle complex infrastructure challenges. Your responsibilities will span all phases of the storage lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.

  • Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

  • Contributes to processes for the architecture of a product/solution feature and helps to create proposals for architecture by testing design hypotheses and helping to refine code plans, with technical leadership from others.

  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Writes and learns to create code that is extensible and maintainable. Considers diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability with few defects, and understands when the code is ready to be shared and delivered.

  • Conducts and creates experimentation to determine the effectiveness of changes for prototyping and testing features, and applies findings back into development.

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guides other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore.

  • Builds knowledge, shares new ideas, and shares pinpoints of engineering tool gaps to improve development and maintenance of complex product features and contribute to success of others.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C or C++ OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of development experiences in cloud or enterprise products related to block-based storage or file systems.

  • 1+ years of experiences in designing and implementing software related to storage data path.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

  • OR related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C or C++ OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C or C++ OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience working on storage technologies related to but no limited to compression, encryption, deduplication, backup and recovery, snapshots, storage protocols, etc.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
