Transmission System Operations Center Outage Coordinator (Hybrid)

Job Summary

The Electric Transmission SOC Outage Coordinator will fill an important role in Electric Transmission - System Operations Planning, with responsibility for the following duties:

  • Coordinating and sequencing planned Electric Transmission (ET) equipment outages by undertaking a thorough review of requested outages to understand scope-of-work, clearances requested, switching required, and potential impact to the grid;

  • Coordinating, reviewing, and updating ET operating instructions and related information for the SOC;

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining processes for transmission outage ticketing, both internally and externally;

  • Providing support to the System Operator for issues related to real time system operations as needed;

  • This role effectively interfaces with all stakeholders, such as the System Operator, ET Construction and Operations, PJM’s outage schedulers, ET Project Managers, Generation Operators, Electric Cooperatives, Interconnected Companies, Key Account Managers as well as the Regional Operating Centers.

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Must meet NERC requirements once onboarded.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences required for entry into this job include the following:

  • This position requires a minimum of 10 years electrical transmission and/or distribution experience

  • Good working knowledge of NERC and PJM policies and procedures

  • Full Knowledge of electrical theory

  • Full Knowledge of related emergency procedures

  • Good Knowledge of substation equipment/operations, relay operations, and power station operations

  • Good Knowledge of field construction, switching, and equipment

  • Strong Leadership skills

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (specifically technical, procedures documentation)

  • Strong computer skills

  • Able to work independently as well as in a diverse team environment

Education Requirements

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelors,

Disciplines: Preferred: Technical Studies

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Preferred: PJM Transmission System Operator or NERC System Operator
