Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Co-Op to join our Material and Analytical Science department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. As an Co-Op, you will be responsible to use co-processing technology to improve physical and chemical property of active pharmaceutical ingredients and drug product intermediate.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize co-processing routes to generate amorphous solid dispersion and drug product intermediates with desired physical and chemical properties

  • Apply ternary phase diagrams to understand phase behavior of amorphous solid dispersion

  • Gain process understanding using various online (e.g., PAT), or offline characterization tools

  • Identify critical process parameters to control critical quality attributes and ensure robust scale up

  • Summarize experimental results with proper data visualization tools

  • Design and conduct crystallization experiments

  • Embracing creative thoughts to deliver innovative pharmaceutical solutions

Requirements

  • Must be a current undergraduate, graduate or advanced degree student in good academic standing.

  • Student must be enrolled at a college or university for the duration of the internship.

  • Overall cumulative minimum GPA from last completed quarter/semester 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) preferred.

  • Major or minor in related field of internship

  • Undergraduate students must have completed at least 12 credit hours at current college or university.

  • Graduate and advanced degree students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at current college or university.

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ongoing graduate students (PhD/MS) in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, and Material Science

  • Solid knowledge and hands-on experience with amorphous solid dispersion development

  • Basic understanding of drug substance and drug product development

  • Experience with spray drying and hot melt extrusion

  • Understanding of chemical engineering concepts including thermodynamics and kinetics

  • High-level experiences in working in lab, including hand-on experiences with instrumentations, including HPLC, XRD, TGA/DSC, PLM, dissolution, etc.

Compensation Data

This position offers an hourly rate typically between $20/ hour and $33/ hour commensurate to the level of degree program in which an applicant is actively enrolled.
