Your role

Reporting to the Senior Manager, News & Current Affairs and Programming, CBC/Radio-Canada French Services (web, radio, TV) for the Bas-Saint-Laurent, you will work as a Cultural Commentator-Interviewer based in Rimouski. You will cover, present and comment on news events and stories, as well as conduct interviews for general programming, in accordance with corporate standards and policies.

You will contribute mainly to the morning radio show Info-Réveil and to the drive-home show Même fréquence . However, the schedule may vary to accommodate production requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Keep up with news and developments in the area(s) covered by the program and maintain a network of sources.

  • Participate in story meetings and pitch story ideas and guests.

  • Research, gather, evaluate and vet all information related to stories being covered.

  • Pitch story angles and coverage formats (article, talk/tape, interview, report, etc.).

  • As needed, choose interviewees. Conduct and record radio interviews.

  • Listen to and view the interviews and select the appropriate clips. Select music and sound effects as needed.

  • Prepare your coverage in the format suited to the platform and program (article, report, interview, etc.).

  • For radio, perform basic editing tasks.

  • Draft a presentation outline for the host (topic, guest, treatment, prep notes).

  • Present and commentate your story on air. Take part in discussions on various topics raised by the host.

  • Contribute to news programs as needed.

  • Drive a news vehicle as needed.

  • Be able to converse and deliver reports effectively on air.

  • Carry out all other related tasks as needed.

This is a candidate database for an on-call contract position. Please note that the expected work schedule involves early mornings.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

  • Three (3) years’ relevant experience

  • Broad general knowledge; extensive knowledge of the Bas-Saint-Laurent cultural scene

  • Good knowledge of the arts and culture

  • Excellent command of French

  • Solid command of communication techniques specific to the platform, as well as interview techniques

  • Valid driver’s license

Candidates will be tested as follows:

  • Testing (general knowledge, French)

  • Interview
