Scope of Job
To provide strategic clinical leadership developing and directing the overall operations for the nursing function at UT Health RGV health system. Responsibilities include cross-functional aspects of the nursing function including clinical policy management, patient safety, patient care, education, customer service, quality outcome management, and regulatory compliance. The Senior Director of Nursing will work in partnership with Ambulatory Operations, Revenue Cycle, Integrated Service Unit ( ISU ) Chairs and the Chief Medical Officer ( CMO ) to develop and maintain collegial and collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders across the institution to positively impact operations and patient care outcomes.
Description of Duties
Provides indirect oversight to nursing function for quality, safety, and the coordination of clinical research with operations.
On behalf of the Chief Physician Executive ( CPE ) and CMO , develops, implements, and directs clinical policies for UT Health RGV , processes and systems to ensure effective, optimal, and efficient operations at clinical sites in collaboration with operations, Integrated Service Unit ( ISU ) chairs and providers.
Anticipates operational/service barriers; develops strategies to minimize obstacles in partnership with Ambulatory Operations, ensures nursing team is working at optimal efficiency and output relative to benchmarks, while maintaining patient safety.
Partners with Revenue Cycle and Ambulatory Operations to ensure efficient and timely new patient access and existing patient experience.
Evolves the education and training function for clinical staff to match our health system’s growing healthcare offerings and needs.
Ensures that nursing operational practices are improved through the development, implementation, and evaluation of continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Complies with institutional, divisional, and unit-based policies and procedures and external regulatory requirements.
Establishes quality benchmarks and implements plans to promote the professional development of nursing staff.
Effectively articulates the relationship between strategic goals for service quality, clinical outcomes, and financial performance.
Identifies opportunities to utilize data about performance measures and patient outcomes in conjunction with leaders at the clinical sites on target areas for priority attention.
Ensures nursing staffing resources are adequate to support the provision of safe patient care while maintaining fiscal accountability.
Participates in strategic planning and marketing efforts and service as a member of the institutional nursing leadership team.
Prepares and presents presentations and reports as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education
Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited university.

Licenses/Certifications
Current State of Texas Nursing license (RN/ APRN ).
Required Experience
Eight (8) years of clinical experience, including two (2) years in a highly responsible management position over direct patient care activities.

Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/Healthcare Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
