Mayo Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) Day -Pediatric Cerebral Palsy/Spina Bifida & PMR in Rochester, Minnesota
Position description The role of the Pediatric Cerebral Palsy/Spina Bifida (CPSB)/ Physical Medicine Rehabilitation RN is to focus on care coordination for patients and families across the continuum of care. The RN serves as the central point of contact for patients/families and the CPSB multidisciplinary team which includes providers from physical medicine and rehabilitation, orthopedics, urology, neurology, neurosurgery, social work, nutrition, PT and OT. The RN will see patients in clinic and complete an assessment, review the patient care plan and goals, provide patient education and review any outside medical records. The RN communicates and updates the care team on significant findings and/or family concerns/goals of care. The nurse arranges and plans for clinic appointments and assures the appropriate lab work, x-rays, procedures and consultations are scheduled and coordinated for follow up. The RN implements treatment plans, triages phone calls, and facilitates communication across providers, settings, and caregivers. The RN provides emotional support and educational needs of patients and families. They also provide needed resources for transitional care to home, school, and the primary care physician. RN serves as a liaison with other Mayo sub-specialty providers, as well as local health facilities and primary providers for maintaining continuity of care. It is essential that the nurse enjoys working with patients and families in complex medical and social situations and possess excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and adequacy of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.
Qualifications Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited associate's degree or diploma program. Exceptions to this may be made in the MCHS sites prior to a law change requiring accreditation expected in 2018. If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN, at least one year of RN experience (within the last five years) in an applicable care setting is required. If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required. All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.
Additional qualifications A minimum of TWO YEARS Nursing experience strongly preferred. Pediatric, neurology, or neonatal experience preferred. Knowledge of pediatric population characteristics and desired outcomes. Candidates must be able to work independently alongside a team of physicians within the Pediatric specialty. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills. Demonstrated ability to use data for trend analysis and decision making.
License or certification Must obtain prior to start: Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
Arizona and Florida: Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
Midwest: Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS – certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.

American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)
Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)

Compensation Detail Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $30.86 per hour.
