Responsibilities

The Immunity and Inflammation Laboratories at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science in Rochester, MN have open positions for two postdoctoral research fellows. The research goal of Dr. Cornelia M. Weyand's program (https://www.mayo.edu/research/faculty/weyand-cornelia-m-m-d-ph-d/bio-20527870) is to understand the genetic, molecular and cellular mechanisms of how the immune system causes inflammatory disease. Specific interests include the immunometabolism in rheumatoid arthritis and the role of immune checkpoints in vasculitis (see https://doi.org/10.1038/s41590-021-01065-2 and https://doi.org/10.1172/jci136042). The research program of Dr. Jorg Goronzy (https://www.mayo.edu/research/faculty/goronzy-joerg-jorg-m-d-ph-d/bio-20527076) is interested in the effect of age on the ability to generate adaptive immune responses. Specifically, the Goronzy lab studies molecular mechanisms of T cell aging as well as T cell memory generation and survival (see https://doi.org/10.1101/2021.08.27.457205 and https://doi.org/10.1126/sciimmunol.abg0791 for recent pertinent publications).The successful candidates will be involved in NIH-funded projects in human immunology with mechanistic molecular and translational scope. They will join teams of researchers with expertise in immunology, cell biology and systems immunology.Applicants should have a PhD degree in Immunology, Cell Biology, or related fields. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Mayo Clinic. The following is required for completeness of application:Current curriculum vitae with bibliographyProof of doctoral degree (copy of diploma or final transcript with English translation, if applicable) or a letter from your university's Registrar office indicating you have fulfilled all doctoral program requirements and are eligible to graduate.Please also be prepared that you may be asked to provide three letters of recommendation to the hiring PI prior to an interview.

Qualifications

Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
