WM Route Manager, Commercial in Rochester, New York

Desired Skills and Experience: Two (2) years of leadership experience, preferably, managing and developing CDL Drivers; familiarity with DOT regulations; experience with payroll; proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; experience with Kronos and UKG is a plus

I. Job Summary

This role functions as a Safety Champion, responsible for Onboarding, Developing, Coaching, Mentoring, and Performance Management of all drivers and helpers. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with all frontline employees. Daily spends 25-60% of the time in the field with frontline employees, including, approximately, 25 CDL Drivers.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Onboarding

  • Ensuring new frontline employees have tools, instruction, and feedback for successful daily duties

  • Meet with new frontline employees daily to ensure consistent communication and support of onboarding

Developing

  • Provide timely and consistent touchpoints with frontline employees.

  • Regular review of best practices to enhance daily performance

  • Focus on understanding and progress of frontline employee career goals

Coaching

  • Identify and address improvement opportunities and collaborate with frontline employees to ensure continued success

  • Actively practice and seek feedback on coaching conversations.

Mentoring

  • Lead by example to ensure safety practices are paramount with each employee and

  • Teaching and developing an understanding of the WM Way

Performance Management

  • Conducts Root Cause Investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining.

  • Documents and maintains records required by regulatory agencies such as the Department of Transportation.

Logistics

  • Planning, scheduling and logistics; will work closely with routing team

  • Reviews and audits documentation related to route operations daily (e.g., DVIRs, driver time and attendance, open tickets), following up where appropriate.

Safety

  • Behavioral observations of CDL drivers in the field; documentation, coaching, etc.

  • Visits customers and customer sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues, seeking service alternatives where appropriate.

III. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

Education: Associates Degree (accredited) or High School Diploma (accredited) and two (2) years of relevant work experience required.

Experience: No experience or successful completion of the WM Route Manager Trainee program

Preferred: Minimum Two (2) years of leadership experience in transportation or service industries

B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirement

Valid driver's license

IV. Work Environment

Combination: This job operates in a mix between an office environment and field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, etc.

The expected salary range for this position is $70,000 - $72,000. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
