GENERAL PURPOSE:

Provides direct research support in a large Neuroscience laboratory.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In accordance with broadly-outlined objectives, requirements, and approaches, plans and conducts technical procedures, non-routine and complex in nature. Is responsible for the specialized animal colony maintenance, management, and documentation, including but not limited to the reproduction and maintenance of multiple, scientifically discrete transgenic and mutant animal colonies

  • Maintains complex databases of mouse colony pairing and lineages and reproductive data. Genotypes mice using Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR) techniques.

  • Performs specialized animal procedures including medication administration, mouse perfusion, and extraction of experimental tissue.

  • Prepares charts, graphs, tables, illustrations, and photographs; may assist in preparation of materials for publication.

  • Acts as a liaison between vivarium and lab on animal colony matters. Works with staff to ensure compliance and university and federal laboratory animal and safety regulations

Other projects and job duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in biological discipline or related field required.

  • One year of applicable experience in laboratory setting. Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • 4-5 years specialized experience involving direct assistance to researchers preferred.

  • Prior animal care preferred.

  • Applicants should be organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently in a collaborative setting.

  • Strong attention to details, analytical, communication (including written communication), organizational and computer skills.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $ 37,000 - $ 64,100 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
