Position Title: Skilled Maintenance Assistant

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED. Completion of an approved electrician apprenticeship-training program or associate degree is desirable.
  • Electrical work experience. (Additional license / certificate may be required when deemed essential by the school corporation)
  • Meets all mandated heath requirements (e.g., negative tuberculosis test, etc.)
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Complies with drug free workplace rules and board policies.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports to:Maintenance Supervisor

Job Goal:The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of maintenance and repairing duties including but not limited to electrical, plumbing systems, refrigeration units, and fire alarm systems. Grounds keeping duties as needed.Carry out all assignments to the best of one's ability with the utmost loyalty, honesty and integrity of the position.

Terms of Employment:Twelve months per year. Five days per week. Hours: 7:00 to 4:00 Fringe benefits in accordance with Non-Certified Handbook

Minimum Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct electrical, electronic, and pneumatic controls troubleshooting.
  2. Maintain and repair refrigeration units, chillers, unit-vents, ice-makers, split- systems, and low and medium temperature coolers.
  3. Program and monitor HVAC systems and energy management systems.
  4. Service boilers and hot-water systems.
  5. Performs general repair and maintenance or electrical and plumbing systems
  6. Maintains and programs fire alarm systems.
  7. Available after hours for emergencies.
  8. Maintain athletic fields as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  9. Remove snow/ice when needed.
  10. Orders supplies as needed, stores and labels them safely.
  11. Conducts preventative maintenance techniques to maintain a safe environment for students and staff.
  12. Services equipment and tools to maintain effective and safe use.
  13. Deals with unexpected situations.
  14. Participates in occupational safety and health training programs as directed.
  15. Takes appropriate action to protect school equipment and property. Ensures that assigned job sites and buildings are secured at the end of the day.
  16. Prepares and submits reports, records, and inventories as directed.
  17. Maintains a professional appearance with appropriate work attire for the position.
  18. Respects personal privacy and maintains confidentiality of privileged information.
  19. Promptly documents all injuries that require medical attention.
  20. Acknowledges personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  21. Completes paperwork accurately. Verifies and correctly enters data.
  22. Maintains an acceptable attendance record and is punctual.
  23. Assists others as needed.
  24. Maintain certifications as required by the Maintenance Supervisor. (For ex. spraying, pool certifications.
  25. Performs other related essential duties as required.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, coaches and the community as well as the ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Ability to operate a variety of machines, equipment, and tools, including van, computers, fire alarms, pumps, boilers, motors, VOM meter, drills, and other hand tools, etc. Ability to operate a variety of equipment, air conditioners, tools, and machines including, trucks, trencher, tractor, bucket truck, electric lifts, kitchen equipment, motors ,electric tools, drills, saws and other hand tools, etc. Ability to occasionally exert physical force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects such as equipment, furniture and materials.

Mathematical Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate decimals and percentages, and use algebra.

Language Ability and Interpersonal Communication

Ability to comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents including schematic diagrams, temperature charts, technical information, and other reports and records. Ability to comprehend a variety of reference books and manuals including electrical diagrams, logic drawings, equipment manuals, etc. Ability to prepare work orders, time sheets, and other job related documents using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style. Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, maintains confidentiality of restricted information, and to follow instructions. Ability to use interpret electrical and refrigeration terminology and language. Ability to perceive and discriminate colors, sounds, textures, odors and shapes. Ability to communicate effectively with immediate supervisor, principals, teachers, coworkers, and the general public verbally and in writing.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on evaluation of classified personnel. Evaluation will be conducted by Superintendent or immediate supervisor.
