ICF seeks a Nutrition Specialist to support The DHS Program nutrition portfolio. This is a full-time hybrid position based in Rockville, Maryland.

The DHS Program is a US Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project that collects, analyses, and disseminates high quality data on population, health, HIV, malaria, nutrition and other topics through household-based surveys that can include biomarker data collection and health facility surveys in low- and middle- income countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The data are widely used by national governments and international institutions across the world. Travel up to 20% of time to low- and middle- income countries may be required

Key Responsibilities

The Nutrition Specialist will provide guidance to The DHS Program on all aspects of nutrition data collection, including nutrition-related biomarkers, leading nutrition research, innovations, capacity strengthening, and participating in global nutrition fora. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership in the area of nutrition to meet global and country-specific current and emerging data needs within the context of The DHS Program

  • Supporting and guiding the improvement of The DHS Program tools, protocols, and reporting related to nutrition, and working to incorporate innovations that improve efficiency and data quality

  • Providing training support and/or guidance for nutrition data collection, including dietary data, nutrition intervention coverage, biomarkers (e.g., anthropometry, anemia, and micronutrient biomarkers), and food fortification coverage

  • Supporting capacity strengthening for analysis, interpretation, and communication of nutrition data

  • Conducting nutrition research on data quality, innovations, and policy-level priorities with in-country partners

  • Promoting tools for communicating available nutrition-related data, analyses, modules, and/or outputs to national-level and global-level stakeholders

  • Participating in global nutrition technical and reference meetings

Required Qualifications (must haves)

  • Masters, Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or related field

  • 3+ years of global experience in nutrition data collection, analysis, and interpretation and/or in using data to identify and meet nutrition program monitoring and evaluation needs and contributing to policy in low- and middle- income countries

  • 3+ years’ experience with the global nutrition community including knowledge of current global nutrition protocols, standards, and best practices

  • 2+ years’ experience with household-based, non-clinical nutrition data collection protocols

  • 3+ years’ experience with quantitative statistical software (e.g., STATA, R) and statistical techniques e.g., multivariate methods

  • 3+ years’ professional writing experience in English; including academic and/or research publications, and/or report writing

Preferred Qualifications (nice to have)

  • 2+ years’ experience living or working in a low- or middle-income country

  • Proficiency in spoken and written French or Spanish

  • 1+ years’ experience with nutrition-related biomarkers

  • 1+ years’ experience with qualitative research methods

  • 1+ years’ field experience in implementing population surveys in low-middle-income countries

  • 1+ years’ experience working with USAID, other bilateral donors, or international agencies

  • Excellent communication, training, and presentation skills

  • Ability to work successfully in teams and with people of diverse cultural backgrounds

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:

$79,643.00 - $135,392.00
