Basic Troubleshooting of all equipment for 9 Stores

Technical Maintenance Worker Interview Transcript:

Please describe your job title and primary duties:

I was a maintenance supervisor for a franchise owner-operator - four stores - and my responsibilities were basically planned maintenance and emergency repair of the restaurant equipment, cooking equipment, refrigeration equipment, heating and air conditioning, and I oversaw store cleanliness and maintenance.

What was the work environment like?

In a word, hectic - always spontaneous breakdowns, have to be ready for whatever's coming at you, you never knew. So many people working on the machines: the cooking, grills, and such. Hectic.

Please describe a typical day as an employee:

My day initially entailed what was needing immediate attention, what particular machine wasn't operating, was having problems, safety-wise. The planned maintenance schedule was worked in - things that do to machines on a regular basis to prevent breakdowns. Typically I troubleshoot equipment throughout the day as best we could for any parts we needed, make sure everyone was doing what they were supposed to be doing, and at the end of the day, try to spend a little bit of time planning for what's going to happen tomorrow, brief kind of schedule for the next day.

What advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

I would tell them to expect the unexpected, to be prepared for whatever may be happening, and to know thoroughly what is expected of you and that job, particularly in a restaurant environment. You never know what's going to happen next, and your ability to be flexible, both in your time and abilities, and competence is very important.
