This is a Metro District position located in Roseville, MN. This position will have the option to work in office or a hybrid schedule of two days in office and three days teleworking each week. If working a hybrid schedule, the employee will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor.

NOTE: This vacancy is being announced at two different job classes at the same time: Engineer Senior and Engineer 2 Graduate. Only one position will be filled; the final class and starting salary of this position is dependent on the successful applicant’s qualifications.

This position is responsible for assisting in the administration of the Metro District Municipal Agreement Program with an emphasis on complex local Federal Aid projects with State Trunk Highway funding. This includes project layouts, environmental documents and construction plans to ensure conformance with State and Federal Aid rules and policies. This position will also assist with the preparation and execution of cooperative construction agreements with local agencies of trunk highway related construction and cost sharing with the State.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer Senior:

  • Licensure as a professional civil engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. (If obtaining licensure through reciprocity, a practice pending letter from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment.)

  • A valid Class D Driver’s License

Minimum Qualifications for Engineer 2 Graduate:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university;

  • A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering exam;

  • Two (2) years post-graduation civil engineering work (Note: A master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university substitutes for one (1) year of post-graduate civil engineering work).

  • A valid Class D Driver’s License.

In addition to the preceding minimum qualifications, candidates will be assessed on the following if interviewed:

  • Oral and written communication skills sufficient to clearly and concisely communicate information and provide training to customers and stakeholders.

  • Human relations skills sufficient to build and maintain constructive relationships with internal and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of the process of coordinating project development with multiple agencies including City, County, and/or staff from MnDOT Metro functional areas.

  • Experience reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.

  • Knowledge and understanding of State Aid Rules and policies.
