Oracle Senior Solaris Support Engineer in Sacramento, California

Job Description

As a member of the Systems Support organization, your focus is to deliver post-sales support of Solaris Operating System product to the Oracle global customer base while serving as an advocate for customer needs. This involves resolving post-sales technical customer Service Requests via phone and electronic communication, as well as technical questions regarding the use of and troubleshooting of Solaris Operating System product. In this position, you will routinely act independently while researching and developing solutions to customer issues.

Responsibilities

Essential functions (What will you do):

  • Provide large- and small-scale post-sales support to Oracle's Solaris Operating System customers.

  • Possess excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Possess excellent verbal and written English language communication skills working in a global environment.

  • Demonstrate excellent time management skills.

  • Work closely with various customer, management, engineers on high visibility issues.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify product defects and driving them to resolution following Oracle's support processes.

  • Collaborate with various internal technical support groups to resolve complex interoperability issues.

  • Interoperate with Product Engineering groups as needed.

  • Participate in weekend coverage rotation.

  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism at all times.

  • Assist Oracle Services to exceed Customer Satisfaction goals.

  • Create knowledge articles as necessary to assist with future problem resolution.

  • Liaise between Support, Sales and Professional Services organizations to ensure customer needs are met.

  • Ensure proper implementation of corporate programs and policies.

  • Strive to deliver a premier technical support experience for the customer.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of Solaris, UNIX, Linux.

  • Good understanding of both SPARC and x86 system architectures.

  • Understanding SPARC and x86 assembly code is a plus.

  • Understanding of Operating system performance analysis.

  • Comfortable with storage fundamentals, volume managers and file systems, particularly ZFS

  • Ability to read and understand C programming language.

  • Experience with zones, virtual machines, and various virtualization technologies.

  • Experience with Solaris installation technologies (Patching, Archives, IPS, Automated Installer, Liveupgrade ).

  • Understanding of UNIX printing / CUPS.

  • Understanding of Solaris Service Management Facility.

  • Knowledge of SuperCluster System is a plus.

  • Solaris 11 knowledge and certification is a plus.

  • Additional knowledge pf programming languages and scripting are a plus.

US: Hiring Range: from $21.59 to $60.63 per hour; from $44,900 to $126,100 per annum. May be eligible for equity.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
