Summary The VASTLMC is seeking a full-time Radiation Oncologist that uses ionizing radiation and other modalities to treat malignant and some benign diseases. Qualified applicants should have or will graduate from an LCME-accredited residency program and be ABR board-eligible or board certified. This position will have access to research opportunities within the VA and may assist with clinical trial development and may also be eligible for faculty appointments with the VASTLMC academic affiliates. Responsibilities The Radiation Oncologist works in coordination with hematology/oncology and our surgical subspecialties to ensure that Veterans with malignancies who need radiation treatments are appropriately managed. The Radiation Oncologist duties will include but are not limited to: Evaluate, diagnose and treat benign and malignant conditions that are responsive to radiation therapy. See new consults, follow-up patients, and weekly on treatment patient visits in clinic. Responsible for devising the treatment plan, coordinating with other multidisciplinary providers, contouring both tumor and normal structure targets and evaluating the overall clinical suitability of a radiation treatment plan. Participates in weekly tumor board conferences to assist with appropriate multidisciplinary care of our veterans with malignancies. Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): This position may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. To participate in the program, you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA Policy 1021 and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office. EDRP approval is contingent on this occupation and specialty being deemed "hard-to-recruit-and-retain" at the duty location you are interested in. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/04/2024. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Physical Requirements: The Physical requirements of this position include the following tasks which may be performed intermittently: lifting of up to 10 lbs., sitting (4 hours), standing (2 hours), walking (2 hours), bending/stooping (1 hour), twisting (1/2 hour), simple grasping (4 hours), fine manipulation (6 hours), reaching above the shoulder (1/2 hour), and operating machinery (1/2 hour). Work Schedule: 8am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday with Rotating Tours, Rotating Days, and On-Call. Pay Schedule: The salary range listed in this announcement is a Base-Line Salary ($3500,000-$400,000) range estimate for a full-time work schedule. Starting salary will be set based on locality (which may include a special pay rate depending upon location), as well as FT, PT or Intermittent employment. Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory and you can practice anywhere in VHA. CME: Possible $1,000 per year stipend + possible 1 week paid authorized absence to attend. Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.
