Job Summary

The instructional support consultant focuses on high DEWI (D, E, Withdraw, Incomplete) course redesign at the Center for Teaching Excellence and supports faculty in redesigning courses with high failure, withdrawal, or incompletion rates. The role involves collaboration with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective teaching strategies and curricular improvements to enhance student success and reduce DEWI rates.

Responsibilities

Course Redesign Support and Communication

  • Collaborate with academic colleges and departments, faculty, and staff to identify courses with high DEWI rates and develop strategies for redesign.

  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among faculty members involved in redesign projects.

  • Provide guidance and support in the implementation of evidence-based teaching practices.

  • Coordinate with the Center for Teaching Excellence and other student support offices to align course redesign efforts with broader institutional goals and initiatives.

Data Analysis and Assessment

  • Work with US Analytics team to analyze data related to student performance and DEWI rates to inform course redesign efforts.

  • Develop and implement assessment tools to measure the impact of redesigned courses on student success.

  • Use data to provide actionable feedback to stakeholders.

  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of redesigned courses in improving student outcomes.

Teaching Faculty Development

  • Design and deliver workshops, seminars, and training sessions focused on effective teaching practices, course redesign, and student success strategies.

  • Provide one-on-one consultation and support to faculty engaged in course redesign efforts.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in teaching and learning.

  • Provide ongoing support and resources to faculty after the initial redesign phase.

  • Develop and disseminate resources, guides, and best practices for course redesign, effective teaching strategies, and student success initiatives.

  • Maintain a repository of successful course redesign examples and case studies for faculty reference.

Student Success Initiatives

  • Integrate student success strategies into course redesign efforts to enhance academic performance and reduce DEWI rates.

  • Work with student success centers to identify at-risk students and develop targeted faculty-based interventions.

  • Develop programs and initiatives to increase student engagement, retention, and completion rate in partnership with teaching faculty.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence.

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of center operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology or related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). 2-4 years experience in instructional technology, preferably in an online education environment required. Knowledge of learning theory with the ability to apply the theory into practice; excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Dreamweaver, Microsoft Office, and DVD Authoring tools; strong editing skills; ability to work both individually and in a team setting.

Master’s degree in a related field may be preferred.

Preferences

  • Doctorate degree in Education or a related field.

  • Experience with redesigning courses with high DEWI rates.

  • Familiarity with evidence-based teaching practices and innovative instructional methods across multiple teaching modalities.

  • Experience with educational technology and its application in course redesign.

  • Experience in implementing student success initiatives and strategies.
