Job Summary

The Mimche Lab is seeking a highly motivated and energetic post-doctoral research associate to support research efforts aimed at deciphering the molecular mechanism of axonal guidance cues in the pathogenesis of fibrotic diseases, including scleroderma, idiopathic pulmonary fiibrosis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis ( NASH ). The successful candidate will also participate in translational research activities aimed at characterizing potential novel compounds for the treatment of fibrosis. The position will be based in the Department of Pathology Division of Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Utah School of Medicine, ranked among the top 30 public research universities in the nation.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform laboratory experiments in small animal models of tissue fibrogenesis.

  2. Performs laboratory research as directed by the supervisor and manage experiments on primary human cell cultures, cell lines and tissues to support mechanistic studies and validation of novel therapeutic

  3. Assess therapeutic potential and mechanism of action of new drugs by analysis of tissues and plasma from pre-clinical models.

  4. Analyze data, maintains a detailed research record and draws conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work

  5. Maintains familiarity with scientific literature and applies knowledge to research projects.

  6. Contributes to general laboratory maintenance. Orders supplies and materials needed for research

  7. Maintains the physical environment of the lab and a safe research environment.

  8. Assist in the training and mentoring of other laboratory personnel such as graduate students and technicians

  9. Attends laboratory meetings, present data, and participates in discussions

  10. Coauthors research publications and presents research at conferences

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Applicants must have a PhD in immunology or other scientific disciplines in a related field. Knowledge and understanding of modern molecular biology, immunology and biochemical techniques including FACS cell sorting and next generation sequencing data analysis is a plus. Strong analytical and computer skills are required, including proficiency with basic data analysis programs (Excel, GraphPad Prism, sequence analysis software, etc.) and application of statistics. A record of accomplishment and publication in English language journals. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences

Preference will be given to recent PhD graduates. Prior knowledge and experience in fibrosis research are desirable. The ideal candidate should have strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal, skills to communicate objectives and results.
