Job SummaryThe Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Utah has a Postdoctoral Scholar position available to join our research team focused on understanding the carbon cycle of mountainous regions of the Western U.S., as part of a NASA-funded Carbon Monitoring System project. The research team includes researchers from the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Utah, Caltech, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Key research tools include satellite-observed solar-induced fluorescence (SIF), the Community Land Model (CLM), and the Data Assimilation Research Testbed (DART). There will be opportunities to work with students and scientists across multiple universities and research institutions, as well as opportunities to engage stakeholders about the scientific results.About Salt Lake City, UtahSalt Lake City is the crossroads of the West with exceptional quality of life opportunities. Within an hour of the city there are 7 ski resorts, wilderness trailheads, mountain biking, rock climbing, fishing, and endless hiking trails. Salt Lake City has a vibrant concert scene, many museums, and the state capitol is just a few miles from the University of Utah.QualificationsA Ph.D. in the geosciences or related fields (atmospheric sciences, biology, ecology, forestry, environmental sciences, chemistry, statistics, data sciences, computer sciences, engineering or other STEM field) is required at the time of hire. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated ability to carry out computer modeling, conduct data analyses, and communicate results in peer-reviewed literature and presentations.
