Job Summary

Dr. Hongchao Guo’s laboratory is looking to recruit a postdoctoral fellow to his lab in the Nora Eccles Harrison Cardiovascular Research and Training Institute ( CVRTI ) at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. The research interests of the Guo lab (https://cvrti.utah.edu/the-guo-laboratory/) focus on deciphering the genetic mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases. The Guo lab has an interdisciplinary research environment, including molecular and cellular biology, cardiac physiology, genetics, human stem cell biology and bioinformatics. We apply a multidisciplinary approach combining genome editing, DNA / RNA sequencing, imaging, biochemistry, induced pluripotent stem cells, and animal studies to gain broader insights into the genetic/molecular understanding of normal and pathological heart function.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will take on responsibilities which include leading projects independently, presenting research results at lab meeting or other conferences, supporting the supervision of lab research, training lab members in specific techniques, preparing manuscript for publications, and preparing postdoctoral grant applications.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferences

  • The successful applicant will hold an MD/Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant research area but not limited to cardiology, genetics, molecular and cellular neural biology, computer science, and human stem cell biology.

  • The successful applicant will have a strong track record of accomplishment and prior experience with mouse models or human stem cell models. Applicants with electrophysiology, next generation sequencing, induced pluripotent stem cells or bioinformatics background are preferred.

  • The ideal applicant should have good written/oral communications skills and a strong work ethic.

  • The successful applicant will be capable of working both independently and within a collaborative team.
