Intermountain Health Simulation Specialist in Salt Lake City, Utah

Job Description:

The Simulation Specialist delivers highly realistic simulated clinical/operational scenarios for training and other purposes primarily by operating computerized manikins. This includes preparation and maintenance of computerized manikins (software and hardware), task trainers, healthcare equipment, and related peripherals. The incumbent is responsible for collecting and inputting data for the simulation consortium to support process improvement, operations, strategy, cost reduction, and increased patient safety and satisfaction.

Weight-lifting requirement of up to 50 lbs.

Scope

The Simulation Specialist reports to the Intermountain Simulation Business Manager of Operations and Technology. This position regularly interfaces and works with leaders and staff from all levels of the organization to coordinate, align, and deliver technology for simulation activities that support Intermountain Healthcare's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Job Essentials

  1. Partners in the design, operation, or maintenance of tools within business intelligence and data visualization programs to build and manage online surveys and databases.

  2. Effectively provisions, installs, programs, configures, operates, and maintains system hardware, software, and related infrastructure.

  3. Oversees and implements technology for clinical skills improvement and research for the Simulation Consortium to enable systems innovation and the continuous improvement of patient safety.

  4. Serves as simulator operator by running scenarios with faculty instructors. Ensures that facility and equipment are organized and in place.

  5. Provides technical support for computer-based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of digital cameras, video cameras, audio/video mixer, digital/analog converter, monitors, LCD projectors, anesthesia machines, low and high-fidelity manikins/patient simulators, and other equipment.

  6. Ensures system hardware, operating systems, application platforms, and associated components adhere to consortium standards for confidentiality, performance, and IS security.

  7. Understands and applies the operations of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators.

  8. Maintains proficiency in existing and emerging technologies including operational theory, design, and implementation.

  9. Collaborates with Simulation Consultant and other simulation staff to identify simulation technology needs for growth and sustainability.

  10. Assists faculty and other Simulation Center staff in the operational aspects of simulation.

  11. Leads technology education for staff, faculty, and Simulation Program learners.

  12. Travels to support center based and in situ simulations throughout the Intermountain Network of Care.

  13. Conducts routine equipment maintenance, inventory updates, and equipment purchases.

  14. Identifies potential equipment scheduling conflicts and assists management in resolving conflicts.

  15. Works with the Senior Simulation Specialist to maintain an inventory list of equipment sent for repair. Works with clinical engineering to ensure that equipment is repaired in a timely manner.

  16. Manages inventory including organizing, tracking, and restocking consumables used in simulation.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience in clinical or technical environments.

Experience working with and troubleshooting audio visual or clinical equipment.

  • and -

Experience planning, participating in, and managing a variety of data visualization tools.

  • and -

Experience working with basic computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, and email.

Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues.

  • and -

Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.

  • and -

Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professional.

  • and -

CHSOS Certification from Society for Simulation in Healthcare.

  • and -

CITI Certification.

Clinical or technical background.

  • and -

Experience working with databases (SQL) to develop analyses.

  • and -

Experience with assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating training or learning programs.

  • and -

Experience working in simulation.

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess patient needs.

  • and -

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

  • and -

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, etc.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$24.29 - $38.26
