Job Summary

The Office Assistant will work with the Administrative Manager within the TRIO Program to facilitate everyday administrative tasks. Office Assistants will greet incoming guests, answer phones, complete data entry, etc.

Program Overview

The TRIO Program at the University of Utah is an educational success program for first generation, low-income and students with disabilities who are seeking their first bachelor’s degree. TRIO serves qualified admitted students at the university and provides students with academic advising, tutoring, financial aid assistance, career exploration and course offerings in math, writing and first year experience (tuition free to those who qualify) as well as disburses $30,000 of scholarships to participants in the program each year. This program is funded by the US Department of Education, Office of Post-secondary Education.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Greets & assists visitors in person or over the telephone.

  • Provides general office support.

  • Data entry duties & departmental media/marketing distribution for University.

  • Answers telephones, provides assistance, and directs students to the correct person or office.

  • Creates & distributes departmental marketing flyers, invitations, notices, etc.

Preferences

  • Languages other than English.

  • Previous or current TRIO background.

  • Must be a current University of Utah student

  • Must have completed a minimum of two years of college and have a minimum 3.0 GPA .

  • Be a current TRIO - SSS Participant and be willing to be an active participant for the 2024-25 academic year.

  • Must be a responsible individual with good interpersonal skills who enjoys working with students from diverse economic, social, and cultural backgrounds.

  • Be willing to commit 15 hours per week.

  • Must be work-study eligible.
