Lilly Biologist - Cell-Free Expression - Molecular Biology in San Diego, California

The Biotechnology Discovery Research Division at LBC-San Diego, responsible for generating, characterizing, and optimizing biotherapeutics from lead generation through lead optimization and preclinical development is hiring. We support cross-disciplinary efforts to engineer innovative biotherapeutics that treat metabolic, autoimmune, and neurologic diseases. We are seeking a highly motivated biologist with experience in molecular biology and cell culture to join the Protein Biosciences Group. The successful candidate will have an in depth understanding and hands-on experiences in molecular cloning, and broad knowledge and experience in related fields such as protein expression, protein purification and basic analytical technique for protein characterization.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in experimental development of cell free expression systems-preparation of lysate and in vitro protein expression.

  • Assist in experimental development of protein expression systems.

  • Work independently at bench and complete work within project timeline.

  • Conduct common experimental techniques that include bacterial culture, PCR, cloning, protein purification and analytics.

  • Maintain a supply of custom reagents under the supervision of senior scientists; develop standard lab operation protocols and procedures.

  • Maintain accurate record; Provide detailed reports and timely presentations to senior scientists.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's Degree in biochemical sciences biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field) with 1-3 years of post-degree relevant experience in a pharmaceutical, biotech, or research organization.

Additional Skills and Preferences

  • Strongly Preferred: Experience in cell free expression systems-preparation of lysate and in vitro protein expression.

  • Experience in cloning, PCR and understanding of modern molecular biology techniques.

  • Experience in maintaining E. Coli cell lines. Additional experience in mammalian and insect cell line preferred.

  • Familiar with affinity purification.

  • Experience with bacterial and mammalian expression vectors; Proficiency in scientific software used to design and analyze biological data.

  • Excellent work planning, data analysis and electronic record keeping skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Plan and present research with clarity.
