An operating room (OR) nurse is a very important member of the surgical services team. As a member of surgical services team, the OR nurse will work alongside the surgeon and other surgical team members to provide optimal safe patient care. An OR nurse coordinates care for the operating room, by ensuring that the necessary equipment and medications are available to the team; and monitors for quality, by enforcing that sterile procedures are followed during surgery. Also, with patient safety the highest priority, an OR nurse must be a critical thinker and possess the ability to solve problems.
