Pacific Building Group Senior Controller in San Diego, California

As a member of the senior management team, the Senior Controller is responsible for the management of all financial and business matters of Pacific Building Group ensuring timely reporting and transparent profitability. The Senior Controller is responsible for managing the accounting team and creating and implementing policies, procedures, and processes to maximize efficiency throughout the company.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • With assistance from the accounting team (A/P, project coordinators, payroll department) provide accurate monthly and annual company financial statements. Review financial statements with Executive team and provide strategic guidance on increasing and/or maintaining profitability in future periods.

  • Maintain Work in Progress (WIP) report.

  • Supervise accounting team and accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll etc.

  • Manage company accounting policies. Update financial, Operational, Purchasing and Other Policies to improve efficiency and simplify the business. Responsible for working with IT manager to optimize software and infrastructure to support office and field operations.

  • Work with department directors to prepare annual budgets.

  • Maintain fixed asset reporting module in Sage 300.

    Insurance Responsibilities:

  • With Safety Manager, report and monitor all active Worker’s Compensation claims. Act as company lead on quarterly insurance claim update conference calls with the carrier.

  • As a key member of company safety team work to encourage the highest level of safety culture throughout the organization.

  • Lead annual insurance renewals, working with brokers to negotiate the best policy.

  • Act as main point of contact for any General Liability claims filed with insurance carriers.

  • Work with carriers to ensure correct coverage for unique projects requiring special endorsements, lines of coverage, etc.

    Required Skills & Experience:

  • Excellent financial and analytical skills, including proficiency with spreadsheets

  • Strong job costing experience

  • Knowledge of construction and prior financial management experience required

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to interface and work with internal teammates, vendors, subcontractors, and clients

  • Experience with Sage 300 (Formerly Timberline) highly desirable

  • Experience with Procore
