The Opportunity

This position works out of our San Diego, CA location on site. The position of Sr. Manager, Cloud SW Development is within our Infectious Diseases business unit in Abbott Rapid Diagnostics division on site daily.

This role will be a Manager and Technical Lead for the cloud development team, which designs and implements cloud solutions supporting our existing and next generation of portable diagnostics platforms. This role will be responsible for delivering the implemented solutions and leading the development of QMS deliverables. The right candidate for this position will be an experienced engineer who has demonstrated success designing, documenting, and implementing high-quality software on the cloud such as Azure, etc.

What You’ll Work On

  • Responsible for the QMS deliverables.

  • Working with the team to promote and uphold software development quality standards such as unit test coverage, proper documentation, scalable design, code security, etc.

  • Lead team to design, build, and implement data pipelines for supporting analytical solutions.

  • Drive level of effort estimates to support planning activities.

  • Lead team to provide microservices design specifications.

  • Manage a team of frontend, backend and data engineers located onsite and offshore.

  • Lead SW implementation and unit testing to meet coverage goals and responsible for the delivery of the SW by following the design control processes.

  • Fix defects found during the implementation process or reported by the software test team.

  • Support software process definition and improvement initiatives and release process working with DevOps team.

  • Demonstrate commitment to the development, implementation and effectiveness of Alere Quality Management System per ISO, FDA, and other regulatory agencies.

  • Understand and recognize the quality consequences which may occur from the improper performance of their specific job; has awareness of device defects that may occur in their area of responsibility, including product design, verification and validation, manufacturing and testing activities

  • Exhibit professional behavior with both internal/external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company’s policies and practices; build productive internal/external working relationships

  • Carry out duties in compliance with established business policies

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, EE or equivalent

  • 8+ years of architecting and developing cloud-based solutions.

  • 5+ years of experience in designing, developing and creating data pipelines, data warehouse applications and analytical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, EE or equivalent

  • Deep cloud domain expertise in: architecture, big data, microservice architectures, cloud technologies, data security and privacy, tools, and testing

  • Excellent programming skills in data pipeline technologies like Azure Data Factory, SSIS.

  • Extensive experience with Service Oriented Architecture, microservices, virtualization and working with Relational databases and SQL/PLSQL like PostgreSQL or MS SQL Server.

  • Excellent knowledge of building big data solutions using NOSQL databases.

  • Experience with MongoDB and Cosmos DB is a plus.

  • Experience in Python is a plus.

  • Experience in big data solutions and analytics; using BI tools like Power BI or Tableau is a plus.

  • Azure or AWS Certification such as a Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Fundamentals, data scientist, developer, etc.

  • Experience with secure coding best practices and methodologies, vulnerability scans, threat modeling, and cyber-risk assessments.

  • Experience with design and implementation of high-availability systems: hot spare/failover mechanisms, load balancers, distributed systems, stateless communication protocols, scalable data stores

  • Familiarity with operational support of a high-availability system, including data and performance metrics, techniques for identifying anomalous behavior, defining alert conditions

  • Experience with implementation and integration of network features, network interfaces, REST API’s, and interface protocols

  • Experience with PKI, SSL, TLS, HTTPS, SSH and secure memory management.

  • Able to take complex designs from concept to implementation with minimal supervision.

  • Leading and managing a team of 3 or more direct reports.

The base pay for this position is $125,700.00 – $251,500.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
