Maintenance technicians are generally in charge of the upkeep of a facility and often have a variety of skills, such as plumbing, groundskeeping, carpentry, painting, and janitorial and electrical skills.
Some may also have HVAC technician certification in order to repair heating and cooling systems. They may occasionally be required to patrol the premises to determine if any hazards are present, and any issues that are discovered should be resolved immediately. It is also important to keep complete and accurate records of the work that is done and the expenses that are carried out.
Customer service and communication skills are beneficial in this position, as the technician may need to interact directly with outside parties, employees, and customers associated with the premises.
Central Utility Plant (CUP) Electrical/Mechanical Technician 1st Shift: Responsible for maintaining Power distribution equipment from low (120VAC - 480VAC) to medium/high voltage (above 600VAC to 115kV) Substations, helping troubleshoot chillers, boilers, pumps, air compressors, steam pressure boilers. Responsible for the 115kV/12.47kV Transmissions substation, 50Megawatt Gas Turbine Generator and all site building life support generators, underground power distribution utility systems, interfacing with PG&E and the site Business Units. Building operations, preventive maintenance, basic equipment repairs and installations, corrective maintenance on
Central Utility Plant equipment such as boilers, chillers, chilled water pumps, condenser pumps, cooling towers, air compressors and mechanical/HVAC equipment. Understands the National Electric Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Codes and National Electrical Testing Association (NETA) requirements. Inspects major systems and identifies operating problems, performs troubleshooting, implements repairs. Familiar with building automation monitoring, alarm response, and implementation of corrective actions. Develops operational and/or switching procedures and supports continuous improvement efforts for the site. Physically able to work in confined spaces and trained for as a C.S. Supervisor, Entrant and Rescue duties. Underground vault work inspecting sectionalizing switches, splices, cables, insulation, ground systems, etc
Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent two-year college or technical school; 5 to 10 years of working with high pressure steam boilers, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, electrical troubleshooting & installlations and building automation control systems. Electrical knowledge with NEC, NFPA and controls knowledge (Preferred). A combination of appropriate experience and education may be substituted for the minimum experience and education requirement.
