Director of Software Development, Oracle Database Cloud

As a director of the software engineering division, you will apply your extensive knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems, and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture.

Oracle DB Cloud (https://docs.public.oneportal.content.oci.oraclecloud.com/en-us/iaas/Content/Database/home.htm) is one of the largest, fast growing, and highest revenue generating OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) services. It has a wide range of service offerings including Base DB (co-managed, runs on OCI VM and Bare metal), and Exadata DB (co-managed, runs on horizontal scale engineered systems in public and private clouds), and Autonomous DB (fully managed). The DB cloud service and the management platform are built on OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) and deployed in 70+ public cloud regions across the world.

Within the DB Cloud org, the (AI-powered) Management Platform team aims to provide a range of internal services to improve the service quality, operational efficiency, and customer experience. We are a growing team with a compelling vision and an exciting roadmap to build a highly impactful and scalable platform. This role will have end to end ownership (Vision, Roadmap, Architecture, Design, Development, and DevOps) for the Monitoring & Incident management service in the platform org.

We seek Engineering Leaders who are hands-on and have the necessary technical expertise and passion to lead teams in solving complex problems related to distributed systems and cloud-native technologies and operating the service at scale. As a leader, you should be a self-motivated and driven individual to develop the team and get things done responsibly. You should value simplicity and scalability, feel comfortable working in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Own a high scale, multi-tenant, distributed cloud scale service.

  • Provide strategy, leadership, and technical direction for a geographically distributed team (U.S & India) of senior/junior engineers.

  • Manage and deliver on key platform initiatives with a special emphasis on DB Cloud service quality and operations.

  • Develop a prioritized roadmap of products, features, and engineering asks.

  • Drive the delivery of roadmap commitments including large cross-functional projects on time with high quality.

  • Work closely with a variety of stakeholders (other OCI teams, Oracle Corp teams, product management) to ensure cross-organizational dependencies are managed effectively.

  • Provide regular updates and feature presentation/demos to upper management.

  • Monitor the health of the DB cloud services and Exadata infrastructure with a focus on avoiding customer impact and improving ops efficiency.

  • Improve the DB cloud services incident management with a focus on noise reduction and automated mitigation/resolution.

US: Hiring Range: from $120,300 to $291,900 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
