Job Description:

About the Position

This role supervises a work team or teams and is responsible for work schedules, training, performance, team goals, coaching/counseling and assisting higher level management. In general work assignments at this level include, but are not limited to...

  • Responsible for the productive and efficient operation of the Dispatch function.

  • Keep all employees up to date on any software changes, such as Trapeze, Trip spark, and any other applicable software.

  • Apply the information gained from On Time Performance, telematics, and productivity data from our software systems to make operations more productive and train bus operators as needed.

  • Continually improve on current procedures and practices to find better productivity and efficiencies within the system.

  • Effectively communicate route changes, detours, and procedure changes to the Scheduling Coordinators and Bus Operators.

  • Act as Operations Manager’s designee for bus operator schedule bids.

  • Accurately apply the CBA and HR Policies in covering bus operator and scheduling coordinator work.

  • Work closely with the Transit Maintenance Department in assigning the correct buses to the routes.

  • Actively mentor, coach and provide training to supervisors, scheduling coordinators and bus operators. You are responsible for creating individual education and job growth plans for direct reports, effectively using the tools and policies provided to develop and mentor direct reports and those within the division.

  • Create the next week’s schedule for scheduling coordinators to ensure proper coverage. Will need to ensure, on a daily basis, that enough bus operators are available to cover all open pieces of work.

  • Compile dispatch vacation bids and help to maintain all dispatch vacation calendars.

  • Plan, schedule, assign, and evaluate the work of Dispatch supervisors.

  • Complete supervisor performance reviews.

  • Participate in interviewing and hiring of supervisors and scheduling coordinators.

  • Supervise supervisors and operation of transit service in the field ensuring that bus operators adhere to published schedules, routes, assigned runs and/or manifests.

  • Assist safety/training/security officer in preliminary investigations for Transit-related vehicle accidents and personal injuries as well as customer complaints. Respond on scene to accidents and complaints as needed.

  • Assist manager in creating and administering corrective actions for compliance with the transit department, CBA and SCG rules, policies, and procedures.

  • Monitor, control, and direct all transit bus service during normal operations and community emergencies.

  • Observe and report conditions of facilities and equipment.

  • During an Emergency: create the schedule during emergency situations, helping to coordinate and dispatch ADA compliant mobility vehicles to and from hurricane shelters. Coordinate with finance on filling out federal daily disaster logs.

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

  • Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

  • The schedule is generally daytime but, on occasion, will work as early as 4:00 a.m. or as late as 11:00 p.m. (this is in alignment with our Bus Operator routes).

  • Must be flexible on days scheduled as weekends may be required to meet business needs.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • -OR- Associates degree in a related field and two (2) years of job related experience.

  • -OR- High School diploma or its equivalent and four (4) years of job related experience.

  • One (1) year of Supervisory experience.

  • Valid Class B CDL License with both Passenger and Air Brake Endorsements (may be obtained within 3 months of hire).

Please note that job related experience would include the operation of transit coaches in a public transit system or similar operation. Supervisory and managerial experience in another industry may substitute for one year of transit experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the geographical areas of the County, Transit schedules, routes, radio, ATU CBA, and fare box operations.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Physical Demands: This position must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
