JOB SUMMARY
The Temporary Facilities Laborer will be a key player in both the shipping and yard management departments at POET Terminal Savannah. This role involves preparing shipments, maintaining the yard, and ensuring efficient container management between the Georgia Port Authority (GPA) and POET Terminal Savannah container yards.
DURING A TYPICAL DAY (IF THERE IS ONE)...
Assist Transload Operators in moving and unloading railcars.
Assist Jockey Truck Drivers in opening and closing doors.
Prepare products and materials for container shipment.
Operate forklift to transport materials like wood and cardboard for creating bulkheads.
Use hand and power tools to construct bulkheads for containers.
Scan container seals into a handheld device.
Assist with various yard activities, including moving rail cars and identifying rail cars for unloading.
Perform standard yard maintenance tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, and pressure washing.
Manage inbound and outbound container movements, ensuring data accuracy in the yard management system.
Assign drop-off and pickup locations for containers based on the daily operational plan.
Verify container movements with drivers, coordinating booking and container number verification in Freight Flow.
Maintain a daily physical yard check of all containers on-site.
Keep in constant contact with port drivers and POET Toplift Operators to coordinate stack coordination and maximize space utilization in each yard.
Assist the Dispatch Manager in pulling data from carriers’ computer systems for reporting needs.
Ensure all check-in/out procedures are followed according to POET directives.
Coordinate traffic flow within the container yard.
Adhere to all safety policies and procedures at all times.
STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
Pursuing or completion of a high school diploma or equivalent education
Practical decision-making
General safety awareness and willingness to take direction on task completion
Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently on various projects
Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to change
You know the basics of Microsoft Office You’re capable of learning new programs

This position is largely self-directed and requires a thorough understanding of company policy, procedures, and values. Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements at all times and in all work This position is exposed to work in multiple environments, including plant, laboratory, as well as an office environment. The team member may be exposed to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and chemicals.
Due to the physical and safety sensitive nature of this job, you will be subject to a physical and expected to pass a drug screen during the pre-screen process. During employment, you’ll be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Specific physical requirements may include:
Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds.
Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.
Walking up to two (2) or more miles per day.
Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.
Standing for extended periods of time.
Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Using hand and power tools.
