REI Principal Product Manager – Search Relevancy & Ranking in Seattle, Washington

The Experience Product team is looking for a Principal Product Manager to lead our Search transformation. The Search team at the Co-op are traditionally known as Search, Browse, Sort & Recommendations, and Search Tech or Platform at other companies. We’re looking for a Product Leader with tenure in machine learning and the Search space to bring their expertise to help us transform the customer experience. This is an exciting opportunity to set a vision and strategy and then bring it to life. There will be ample interaction with senior leaders as this is one of our key focus areas.

You'll be working with enterprise and domain architects, UX/CX leaders, data scientists, and other directors, executives and stakeholders across the Co-op, including but not limited to Merchandising, Membership, and Marketing.

You'll be expected to own the product vision, and clearly develop and articulate a strategy and a roadmap to team members and stakeholders.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Responsibilities - What You'll Do

• Leads a product team (or multiple teams) to solve our co-ops biggest and most complex customer problems, often spanning across divisions.

• Determines the product vision and clearly translates the vision into clear requirements for the near term and long-term (3-year) roadmap.

• Builds a short- and long-term learning agenda and craft clear experiments to identify opportunities in an ambiguous area and test our best ideas. Will help inform hypotheses with insights.

• Responsible for a complex platform with a broad set of capabilities, services, and integrations. Expected to anticipate and deliver new functionality that meet the needs for a diverse set of clients.

• Develops qualitative and quantitative data insights from customer research, data analysis and business analytics to help drive solutions.

• Consistently advocates effectively for the customer's point of view during product ideation. Will be recognized as the team's expert on the user and their needs.

• Collaborates fluently with design and engineering to implement experiments. Recognizes dependencies, removes barriers, ensure smooth product delivery, and proactively communicates risks to stakeholders.

• Effectively communicates and aligns with multiple product teams, stakeholders, and executives to drive towards common goals.

• Actively utilizes and helps improve product practices for the Co-op. A recognized expert and respected product management practitioner.

• Leader in demonstrating and designing with Systems Thinking

Required Skills and Experience - What You'll Need

• 10+ years’ experience managing technical platforms – or - 10+ years’ experience working on digital consumer products, including 7+ years’ experience as a Product Manager or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Deep understanding of Search and/or Recommendation mechanisms especially in NLP, deep learning, personalization, recommender systems, information retrieval, and advertising systems.

• Experience leading and overseeing the full machine learning lifecycle from identifying the opportunities to prototyping, deploying, and A/B testing.

• Experience working collaboratively with architects/engineers, data scientists and analysts, and UX designers.

• Technical fluency and ability to clearly communicate user and business benefits for various technologies; comfort communicating technology concepts, trade-offs and new opportunities with team members.

• Proven track record of delivering impactful products to a broad customer base in an agile environment.

• Proven ability to use a range of discovery tools. Demonstrated ability to identify sources of information that would expand current data infrastructure.

• Proven ability to leverage data and insights to make informed product decisions including prioritization.

• Able to self-serve data needs using the current infrastructure and seek additional data resources.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience designing and delivering search/recommendation platforms.

  • Experience working with omnichannel retailer / systems.

  • MBA.

Pay Range

$127,600.00 - $204,100.00 per year
