As a UW employee, you have a unique opportunity to change lives on our campuses, in our state, and around the world. UW employees offer their boundless energy, creative problem-solving skills, and dedication to build stronger minds and a healthier world. By being deeply invested in our work, showing compassion in our interactions, and embodying the spirit of a team player, each member contributes to a thriving community. UW is committed to attracting and retaining a diverse staff; your experiences, perspectives, and unique identities will be honored at the University of Washington. Together, our community strives to create and maintain working and learning environments that are inclusive, equitable, and welcoming.

UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW’s IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW Medicine, and research operations around the world, partnering with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service. UW-IT collaborates with university partners to advance the University’s mission of the preservation, advancement, and dissemination of knowledge. UW-IT collaborates with university partners to advance the University’s mission of the preservation, advancement, and dissemination of knowledge.

The Productivity Platforms Administrator (PPA) will serve as a support administrator for a wide range of services across the Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for Education productivity platforms, including Google Cloud Platform. The PPA will also support middleware that integrates these productivity platforms with UW-IT's enterprise subscription services and IAM services.

These duties involve automating, maintaining, upgrading, enhancing, documenting, monitoring, and providing Tier 3 support for these productivity platforms used for teaching, learning, research, everyday collaboration, and clinical activity by 150,000 UW users and by their partners outside the University.

The PPA will also be responsible for escalating and solving desktop support problems stemming from the interplay of these productivity platforms, a variety of web browsers, and related desktop applications. The PPA contributes to cutting-edge enterprise technology projects, coordinating and working with UW-IT colleagues and campus partners on projects involving these productivity platforms, and working with colleagues in UW-IT to integrate these productivity platforms with other UW-IT services such as Canvas LMS and MyUW. Finally, the PPA educates members of the UW community, other higher education institutions, and vendors about these productivity platforms.

The UW is typically an early adopter of new Microsoft and Google platform services; as a result, the PPA implements and supports these platforms with little guidance from the vendor. This means that the PPA must creatively and collaboratively solve technical problems working closely with other administrators, partners in industry, administrators at other higher education institutions, and administrators within UW-IT. This cutting-edge work is made more difficult because once the new platforms are in place, the PPA must then provide Tier 3 support for technologists across campus who are responsible for implementing new platform services in their colleges, schools, or departments.

To support these platforms, the PPA must have a deep knowledge of constantly evolving technologies. The productivity platforms supported by the PPA are highly integrated with enterprise Subscription Services, IAM, and UW Microsoft Infrastructure services. To achieve this integration, the PPA must develop customized operational procedures and/or middleware, balancing the unique local needs of UW with the standard integration patterns supported by Microsoft and Google. This work happens collaboratively and consultatively with UW-IT administrators responsible for the other enterprise services.
