The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) Mission Systems & Autonomy (MS&A) software team located in Seattle WA, Tukwila, WA, or Everett WA. The selected candidate will lead the end to end software development, build the next-generation software products, create and deploy the innovative R&D software applications for a diverse portfolio (e.g., Production Analytics, Autonomy, Computer Vision, etc.) by collaborating internally and externally.

The candidate will work with software product-line owner, program/project managers, research and software teams to create common software products and tailor for use on a portfolio of customer-funded programs. The successful candidate will work across organizations or business units to design and deliver software products with engineering excellence to ensure safety and high quality of the software.

This position may require up to 10% travel.

Position Responsibilities:

• Lead the full software development lifecycle as a full stack software engineer, including problem analysis and planning, Software Architecture & Design, Software Development, Software testing, and Software deployment with operational excellence.

• Leads activities to develop, document and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems and strategic reuse across all programs.

• Leads development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system.

• Develops software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met.

• Provides technical leadership for software projects and leads software supplier management activities (if there is any). Leads development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools and metrics.

• Plans, executes and documents software research and development projects.

• Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations.

• Collaborate with stakeholders, engineering teams, and peers closely for the on-time software delivery with safety and high quality.

• Build and grow the software capabilities across organizations and teams with mathematical optimization, data science, data mining, or machine learning requirements.

• Drive software execution to deliver products on-cost and on-schedule to programs.

• Responsible for software safety, assurance, quality, and engineering excellence.

• Drive first time quality in all phases of product and software development lifecycle.

• Attend and present technical work in internal conferences or meetings with great verbal and written communications.

• Innovate and file patents; sometimes publish papers (optional).

• Mentor junior software engineers

• Works under minimal direction.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

• Bachelor degree from an accredited course of study in computer science, data science, mathematics, engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, or physics.

• 5+ years of experience designing and developing software using Python, C/C++, C# and/or Java

• 5+ years of experience in Object-Oriented development

• 5+ years of Experience as a full stack software engineer

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

• Experience with new product development with small, agile teams on fast-paced, dynamic customer-funded programs

• Experience with fault tolerant architectures and designs

• Experience in software architecture, design, and modeling including UML or SysML

• Experience with modern microservices architecture, implementation, and maintenance operations.

• Experience or background in aerospace industry (such as production analytics, autonomy, computer vision, etc.)

• Experience in large-scale end to end software projects are preferred.

• Experience with mathematical optimization, data science, data mining, artificial intelligence or machine learning

• Experience with cloud computing, virtualization technologies, & containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)

• 5+ years of experience in developing software in a collaborative team environment using agile principles and a structured development process including code reviews and DevOps processes/tools

• Full software lifecycle experience from planning, design, implementation, test, deployment, and maintenance

• MS or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering related field.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and

experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
